It is the only way to explain the deceptionally one-sided point of view more radical than anyone in these forums has ever before exhibited.

If you're just a normal joe Schmo, I cannot believe these would be your actual opinions. You're sticking up for an industry that is a clear oligolopoly, controls the radio stations, seeks to control how and when you listen to their songs, and blames their largest consumer demographic for all their problems.

Well he is as close minded as the RIAA executives are. Plus he lacks a clue about the whole issue like they do as well.

They won't because I don't share my Music files with anybody I don't know. The idea of letting strangers have access to files on my system just doesn't sit right with me.

Guess you missed the point where this isnt even on HardOCPs site? It was for a very short time so steve could let people know about the raffle to get them signed up, then as soon as it was it was taken off the site.... sure sounds like a great way to get publicity! LOL This is done purely by steve on hypothermia.us... which is where he does ANYTHING like this... sure sound like publicity for hardOCP huh?

someone from Grokster also paid/was willing to pay the $2000.

You can't scare someone into buying your product, but you can scare them into a revolt. I'm waiting fore the bubble to burst.

I don't enjoy paying 15 bucks for crap. I download the songs and if the CD has more than 2 good songs then I will buy it. The RIAA is only sueing people that don't have money and can't afford a legal defense. They are strongarming college kids and people who can't afford to pay for a legal defense into settling for what often times is their life savings. Yes what people are doing is stealing, but then again we did not conspire with record labels to price fix either, now did we?

Pirating music is a countereffect of the RIAA and music label's greed to gouge consumers. I fee 0 sympathy towards any of them or their supporters. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

Atleast the point is getting across, I cant remember which music company it was but one of them just dropped their CD prices quite a bit.

Universal

Hmmm. So they are sending the money to the RIAA or her parents? have they done so already?

I wonder if everyone is taking credit for paying the girl's lawsuit
Remember the schoolgirl in yesterday's "Buzz" column who was being sued for thousands by the Recording Industry Association of America for song-swapping on the Internet? Briana LaHara, 12, is now off the hook. Her mother, Sylvia Torres, settled the suit for $2,000 and a bunch of apologies. However, reports say that Wayne Rosso, head of the file-sharing company Grokster, has offered to pay the fine, saying he was "disgusted" by the RIAA's tactics.
I know, the snippet says he offered.

It is done, we did it guys! Ms. Deborah Hurd, the principle of school that young Briana attends, has went above and beyond in helping us get this money to this girl and her family. I am including a list of all the names of the people who made this possible to go along with this donation. As always, you guys are fantastic.

Seems it's a done deal.

You are mistaken. I support the RIAA in their efforts to get those that pirate, or help pirate their IP.

I dont support the RIAA when it comes to them wanting to stop people from being able to copy digitally the CDs they already own.

Nor do I support them being an oligolopy that has abused its power to crush independent labels/artists.

Nor do I support Clear Channel being a monopoly that does the same thing in the radio industry.

None of that right there involves what the RIAA is doing to pirates. Is the RIAA using heavy handed tactics, of course however they a LEGAL heavy handed tactics, which everyone uses when the chance arises.

I feel no sympathy for people who have pirated and got caught.

The only reason the RIAA tactics are legal now (before, they were NOT) is because they paid lawmakers to make them some new laws tailored to their dying industry. Before the new laws, citizens en mass were phasing them out. Now, the RIAA gets to sue everyone.

So, you're supporting the fact that they get to buy new laws. And for you to support that, I cannot believe you wouldn't have anything to gain by supporting it. Any corporation that has 'lobby for new laws' as part of their corporate strategy should face the wrath of an unsupporting demographic.
