How long does it take for steroids to get out of your system? I mean like could an athlete, i.e. Barry Bonds, take steroids, pump iron like crazy all winter, and then come back in the spring and test clean. How long beforehand would he have to stop using to test negative? In this time how much strength would he lose. Are the tests in pro sports scheduled or random? It's just something thats been bugging me since they started making a big deal about roids all over the place.

It depends. Steriods is a word used for a LOT of things. And now with all the custom STERIODS it is hard to trace some and some can be traced in hair and blood for a long time. Just depends.

BUT they have his and other test reslults from last year and they will be public soon.

Marlin's got it right. Different drugs of the steroid stacks have different half-lives and metabolic rates. I have an ex-roomie that uses steriods and he was constantly researching.
He just back from a powerlifting meet where he maxed a 550 bench...his body is going to be pissed in the years to come.

not if he's done everything right
I'm not convinced of that. The amount of studying he did before even considering the programs was staggering and I'm confident that he at least did most things 'right'. However, messing with the body's chemistry is not to be taken lightly. There's no way to predict what the long-term ramifications are, say, forty years from now. Not that I'm givin' high-fives to the government, but there's probably a reason these drugs aren't legal.
The steroids I took were a huge pain in my a$$.
You can inject in other muscles too, ya know;)

The reason is that it's easy to abuse and difficult to use 100% properly. Look at ephedra, for example. Used properly, it's a very effective fat-loss tool. Used improperly it can be dangerous. Because a small percentage of people were the "look maw, it sez take 2, i'mma take 20!!1!1" type, abused it, and died, it's now illegal. Steroids are easier to abuse, in that proper use is more complicated than simply taking an easily determined proper dose Improper use, which can be as simple as not having an anti-estrogen on hand to counteract the effects of ending a cycle, can lead to many different & undesireable side effects.

I bet you anything, soprts stars are not using what you think they are using anymore. "Normal" steroids were used back in the 80's and 90's and are easily detectible with a simple $3000 test. Most sports stars today that you "think" are using steroids, are not. They are using somatropin (Humatrope, Serostim, etc, just different names). It is not detectible at all. the downside to it is that is is WAY more expensize than regular juice (black market about $450-$650 per month compares to less than $100 a month for normal stuff that IS detectible). Somatropin is not your typical "steroid" in that it causes mood swings, acne, shrunken nuts. There are virtually NO side effects of it. It is used today by elderly people for it's anti-aging properties, and people who have wastig type diseases to gain weight. Read up on it. Its actually useful for many many things. Also, no need for a HUGE needle. Insulin needles (SMALL) are all that's needed. An endocrinologist can write prescriptions, but some insurance companies will not cover it due to the retail price of $1500-$2000 per month.

Very very expensive. A small amount will run you $600 a month and up. Double that for a pro bodybuilder. HGH makes everything grow... your muscles... your bones.... and to a degree, even your organs. *cough* 6 time Mr Olympia Ronnie Coleman *cough* <-- big HGH user.
