Stepped overclock up to 3.4ghz

I first increased FSB to 425 and lowered multi to 6. Ran Memtest for about an hour on test #5 and every one passed. DDR voltage is +.01 and when I boot into windows, Speedfan shows it has 1.98v.

Pressing on....

Booted back into bios and set multi to 8 at 425 FSB, kept ram timings at 4-4-4-12, and kept voltages the same: 1.30v for cpu, and 1.98 (at +.01) for DDR. In windows now and currently running Orthos and here is a screenshot of 10 mins so far into the test.

http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7016/tempsne9.jpg

I'm curious about something. I know about Vdroop and at idle my cpu voltage shows 1.268v, but when I run Orthos with the blend option, it actually shows my voltage lowered to 1.232v. I'm kinda confused about this. Shouldn't the voltage have gone UP when at 100% cpu load?

Any thoughts or comments on the voltages would be appreciated.

Thanks.

thats a very good overclock for the voltage you are using. good job.

joe, I had my rig up to 3.4 for a bit. It ran orthos for only 45 minutes so I went back to 3.2. All my voltages were stock. I have been too busy to do more.

Wow we have almost the exact same setup. hehe.

So what happened after 45 minutes of running Orthos (blend test)? Did it give an error msg, did your system reboot or freeze? What were your core temps at the time?

how much voltage do u need to hit 3.6 joe? also im completely jealous of the 6750s. i have to add .13v to get the same stable speed as you.

Orthos stopped itself by error. I don't remember my core temps. Coretemp is currently reporting 32-35C at idle now. It's 81F ambient in my office. I'm not sure if I did a crappy job installing the Tuniq Tower. My friend has the exact same system as me. We built them together. Coretemp is reporting 27C for his cores. However, he as AC on in his house and his ambient is 71F. I'm not sure if that is the difference or not.

I don't know, I didn't want to push it and try 3.6 with just the AC Freezer 7 Pro cooler. I probably could but not sure if I should try it. My idle temps are 32c, and load temps are 55c at 3.4ghz using my voltages.

Think I could squeeze 3.6?

fatboy: How can I tell what my ambient temp is?

It's just your room temperature. Look at a thermomature. You'll have one your house thermastat if you have a digital one.

with that chip you should be able to get 3.8 24 hrs orthos stable. probably not with the freezer pro b/c your temps would get out of hand, though. I need 1.56v in bios to be 24 hrs orthos stable at 3.6. I only have .04 vdroop with very rare instances of .05. I couldn't get 3224 stable at 1.35, so your chip appears to be much better than mine. Try 1.5 vcore in bios and 8x450 with ram at 1:1 and 5-5-5-18. You might need to increase other voltages on mobo but I'm not familiar with p35's. If you're stable for 15 min then try dropping vcore a little bit at a time until you fail small ffts, then inch it back up until you can pass 24 hrs stable. You should be able to keep it under 65c even with the freezer pro. You might try reseating the freezer pro to get better temps.

That's odd that cpu-z shows your correct voltage, mine just displays 1.096 v all the time. the more I look at this the more I think that your temps are a little bit high. definitely should reseat freezer and maybe do some lapping if you're going to keep it at 3.6 permanently.

Well...

I went back in bios and set it to 8x450 for a 3.6ghz overclock. I raised cpu voltage from 1.30 to 1.40, left all other voltages alone, and changed ram timings to 5-5-5-15.

Here is a screenshot so far after 17 minutes of Orthos blend test:

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/7819/temps2hz4.jpg

My core temps are fluctuating between 58c to 61c (with 61 being highest). Normally sits around 59c, but it does fluctuate a little.

Is this a little warm?

Give me your thoughts. Should I go back to 3.4ghz or try to test 3.6 all night under blend test?

I just set my system to 3.4 (425 x 8) with everything at stock. Orthos blend ran 50 minutes until it stopped. I was not watching all the time but when I did the load temps were around 51C. I went to watch TV during the test and I started hearing "beeping". I came back to the Orthos test (stopped) with the mobo beeping at me. I guess that was a temp warning. However the temps were back down to 32c. I reboot and set back to 3.2.

Does anybody know how the bio temp warnings work? When does it kick in? Does the beeping stop until you reboot? or when temps lower?

Joe,

Why don't you have your 8800gts temp in speedfan?

Mine just did the same thing in Orthos. I lowered my cpu voltage from 1.40 to 1.35 running at 3.6ghz, and Orthos did a STOP about 2 minutes into the small ffts test. LOL. Guess it didn't like the voltage change. I bumped it up to 1.368 and testing again.

I believe the beeping stopped when the temps went back to idle.

Edit: Yea I just got a BSOD at 3.6ghz with 1.368v with the small ffts test. I was able to run 3.6 with 1.40v but I only did the blend test for about 45 minutes and was fine although the temps were 61c. Little warm.

I think I'm just going to go with 3.4ghz at 1.30v (which is where I'm back at now) and run small ffts for 24 hours and if it's stable...I'll roll with that. I also set my ram timings back to 4-4-4-12 at 1.98v.

3.4ghz is still a good overclock right?

joe, did you ever get 3.4 stable? It looks like you jumped to 3.6 and trying to get that to work?

Also, what are your room temps?

bryan, what what are your core temps and room temps?

3.4 was stable at 1.30v but I only ran the orthos blend test, not the small ffts which is what I'm running now. I think I'll stick with 3.4. I might go ahead and buy a Ultima-90, lap it and try that to see what kind of temps I get. Probably do that in a week or so.

I don't know how to put my 8800GTS in Speedfan. How do you do it?

Speedfan detected my 8800gts automatically. mine says Core :57C

Weird. My speedfan didn't detect it. Which speedfan version are you using? I'm using 4.32.

Oh and which orthos test should I do for the 24 hour stability test? small ffts or the blend?

i'm using speedfan 4.32 also. Did you accidently disable that temp? check again.

Also, what is everybody deeming stable? Orthos blend for 24 hours or Orthos small FFT for 24 hours?

I always run blendtest with dual prime. I've been running my e6400 at 3.6 with 1.45v load temps at 60 for a whole year now. You should be fine with around 60-65 degrees.

joe, are you running your memory 1:1? I change my "memory multipler spd" setting to "2" for a 1:1 ratio.

What bios are you using?
