Stephen King's The Stand .. should I get the "uncut"?

So I just started reading The Stand.. and I'm about 100 pages into it, but now I hear there's an uncut version that's another 350 pages or so.. should I go out and find it and start over? Is it worth it?

may as well... I've read the cut version years ago and remember it not being as good as the uncut.

I didn't even know the original version was still being published. I nabbed my copy at a used book sale.

This is my mother's copy from '78. I'll have to try B&N for the uncut.

uncut version. its not only a few lines added and more depth added to certain characters, but the ending is different and better on the uncut.

I am just reiterating that you also need to watch the awesomely bad made for TV 90's miniseries.

(damn GF calls me at 3 in the am and wakes me up from my recently started slumber)

I've only read the uncut version but have to say it was a great book. I found it used at an antique store of all places for $7.

I was at the time ready to buy it new from B&N also but just lucked
out.

I'm actually reading The Stand now. It's an older hardcover from the library and it doens't say "cut" or "uncut" anywhere.

It's 823 pages if that helps. Anyone know what version this is?

Hmm. The printing date is indicative? When did the uncut version come out? My copy is only 817 pages (small print), but the hardcover I look at quickly on Amazon is 1143 pages in length. So I immediately figured mine was the cut. However, this has a print date of 1980 upon looking closer (wasn't the 78 edition I thought it was). I imagine it's still the cut version. So I imagine Mojoed is also cut.

1993 is the uncut version. The cut version came out in ~1978, it was un-cut by King in 1990 if I recall.

The uncut version is way better, it removes some dated references to disco and gas prices, expands on several interesting aspects of the plague, and is just a better read. It expands on the Trashcan Man quite a bit, including the 2nd most graphic rape scene I've ever seen in a King novel.

neither read McCammon's Swan Song instead

both are really good books

Man I was so pumped to read Swan Song, and it was so god damned boring. The Stand is WAY better.

I actually like the cut version because of the dated references. If he would have just released an uncut version with dated references intact and exactly like he had it written in the first place, instead of re-doing parts of it to bring it up to date, the uncut version would have been perfect, IMO.

Blah, yeah you're right. I wish I knew about this last week when I started reading this. 😛
