There are many good Wikipedia articles and I read Wikipedia quite often for personal entertainment, but I have run across many entries in my field that are very poorly written and even at times incorrect.
When people are unfamiliar with a topic and find it on Wikipedia, the danger is that they have no clue if it is indeed accurate or not. In regards to my scientific discipline I know what is "right" and "wrong" simply because that is what I do for a living. If a layperson saw the same article they would have no clue if it was correct or not. Needless to say some scientific "facts" on Wikipedia are more fiction than fact.

As a professional scientist, I would in no way ever, ever, ever use Wikipedia as any source of anything.

Did you correct the ones you found with issues?

No, I've been too busy doing it "for real" and just simply haven't had the time to write stuff up on Wikipedia. Luckily, though, somebody else found the one that bothered me the most and did a decent re-write of it.

Barbara what's her name does most of them and many are backed up with sources that are usually some major news publication.

But, some of them are labelled as false because the author couldn't find evidence supporting the truth or uses suspect logic to "disprove" something. At the least, those should be considered "unknown" or whatever the snopes term is (forgot).

The funny thing about that link is the article is called "Wikipedia as accurate as Britannica" even though in the limited study done Wiki averaged about 1/3 more errors per article.

IMO Wiki is fine for gleaning general knowledge about general topics, but I don't trust it as a specific source for more niche topics.

Using it as a final source is absurd. Using it as a starting point to research can be quite useful. Also, there have been studies which show wikipedia has about the same degree of error as major encyclopedias.
