Stephen A. Smith is an angry black man who likes to play the race card.
He appeals to angry black men who like to think they're oppressed.
Seems to be a perfect fit for NBA fans.

You guys are forgetting the all-time worse ESPN anchor/commentator/personality - Stuart Scott

I'm pretty sure the largest (by far) demographic of NBA fans is middle class white people. So how is he perfect for NBA fans again?

This guy started in Philly and I couldn't stand him then. And, you won't often hear me saying it, but he has and does play the race card in totally stupid and unsupportable ways.

I can't believe he got hired by ESPN. He's unwatchable.

People love antagonist personality on shows. It is always good to have someone to be angry and disagree with.

Stuart Scott is HOF good compared to either Bayless or SAS. Both necessitate an instant channel change for me. few "personalities" that I actually loathe, but SAS especially takes the cake. He's beyond cliche and annoying.

I don't. I'm a big sports fan but I just can't watch or listen to most TV or radio sports shows, especially the call-in radio ones. The hosts are loud-mouth jerks, and the callers are idiots. It's like reading the poster comments after any espn.com article. They make OT look mature.

The one exception for me is the Michael Barkann hosted post Eagles game show. Barkann is a great host, and Ray Didinger always has something of true substance and insight to contribute, and does so without having to assume any asshole persona.

And watch Derrick Gunn interview the Eagles players lets you see a true pro at work. You can tell he's actually cultivated a semi-genuine relationship with most of them beforehand, and that he has their trust and respect.

Plus, he's no sports genius, but I love The Guv, Ed Rendell. He's everything those who support Chris Christie like about that fat fuck -- unvarnished and direct -- without the bullying meanness.

I don't like Stephen A but he's better than that idiot Skip Bayless.

Also did anyone else see where Skip Bayless lied about his days as a high school basketball player on twitter, then another espn host called him out on it on air. Gist of it was skip said he led team to state championship game, turns out he averaged like 1.5 points a game or something
And the SNL parody of Stephen A was perfect.

I think you mean this heh..
Skip Bayless vs. Jalen Rose - heated debate - and Stephan A. Smith

The US population is 12.6% black/AA. The NBA fan population is 21% black/AA. Do the math.

I hate most sports personalities on TV which is why I rarely watch any of them; never watch pre-game or halftime stuff. 90% of them are annoying blowhards.
