So here is my issue. I have a 7800GTX that i recently bought from Monarch...in the last 90 days. and the card is giving me hell. It's throwing artifacts on reboots and not behaving very well. I have an RMA for the card, but I was just reading about the step-up program. I'm thinking that since I have to return the card anyway, I might as well step up to a better card...but what should I choose? It has to be an eVGA card. It looks like maybe something in the 7900 or 7950 family, but I'm not sure which. Any thoughts? I have about a week to make up my mind or stick with this card and get it fixed.

thanks

Officially, you step up a properly functional card. Officially, they test the card after they get it before they approve the step-up. So, you may want to confirm with them before doing this.

Also, do the step-up as late as you can. Don't do it if you have 2 more months left. The reason is that the next generation may come out soon and you will be able to step up to a much better card.

Soon = Tomorrow, if you didn't know. :D

In that case your step-up would subtract $500 from the card you'd be upgrading to.

What resolution will you be gaming at?

I'm usually gaming at high res, like 1200 x 1600 if I can. I'll be upgrading my Proc later as well, to get some more power. I'm just trying to figure out which card from eVGA would be a step up from what I have now...what would be good?

As for the working versus non-working...I think I can get by with the one I have. when it's cool it boots fine...the issue is when I reboot it usually fails. The other thing is that I need to find the box the card came in...which might be difficult. I'm not sure I have it any more.

DUde just grab an 8800GTX or GTS if Evga has them available. If not, 7950GX2 for sure. Remember, if you step up to a card that is less than $500, EVGA doesnt give u back the difference.

Why did you buy a 7800GTX for $500 anytime after the 7900 series came out? That's the real question :p
