While I agree that funding college in things like STEM courses will probably pay better dividends for the US than spending billions of $$$ in a useless war, you'll never convince the (R)'s of that...and FWIW, it's gonna be pretty difficult for Greenman to be replaced by AI....he's a construction contractor.
Construction Contractor or worker?

If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening
All over this land

I'd hammer out danger,
I'd hammer out a warning,
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

Didn't a famous "bone-spur victim" also play football in high school
Magic bone spurs are a terrible thing! Luckily us common people wont have such problems when they send our kids off to war, this is just a problem that the rich and powerful are afflicted with.

Yes there is, and folks @Greenman should realize that he does benefit from people going to college for free or at least for much lower cost then in the US.

He should also realize that one day he he may need a UBI scheme implemented in the US one day since he could get replaced by AI doing the same task(s) at some point in the future.
I do benefit from people going to collage. They pay me a great deal of money to do all the things they are unable or unwilling to do.
An AI could take over my job tomorrow. All it would need is the ability to interpret vague descriptions, address several thousand variations of those descriptions, be able to select the best of several possible approaches, be compact and extremely mobile with all of the dexterity of a human. A chimpanzee could do it if it had a 120 IQ.

To the point at hand, I'm a big fan of a social safety net, not a comfortable bed. I like the idea of UHC. I could even be convinced that state funded college is a good idea, as long as it was 100% merit based. Merit does not include race, religion, perceived gender, sex, or age. It does not make exceptions for prior bias or discrimination. No degree that ends in "studies" would be paid for. The focus of all other degrees would be 80% STEM.

Things the robot didn't do.
Layout the foundation.
Excavate the foundation, place the rebar and pour it.
Frame and shingle the roof.
Install the doors and windows.
Install the plumbing.
Install the electrical.
Install the HVAC.
Install the cabinets and countertops.
Install the interior trim.
Install the finished floors.
Install the hardware.
Paint.
Install the plumbing fixtures.
Install the electrical fixtures.

Did you notice that there wasn't any rebar in those walls? Did you notice that there wasn't any bracing of any kind in those walls? Did you notice that there was no plumbing in those walls?

The robot spread out some goo in a very small and defined pattern. That's not even similar to building a house. It's like thinking that a computer that can take dictation is an author.

Exactly. That might be acceptable for housing sub-hoomans, but wouldn't pass any kind of building code in a civilized nation.

things the robot did do. Displace a bunch of people that can do what you do.

The robot is a tool, it does one specific task, and a task that is only one small part of a trade. It's actually surprising to me that you don't seem able to grasp that concept. What the house building robots in the youtube videos are doing is about 10% to 15% of what goes into a home.
I assume they could design a home and have it broken down into a series of tasks a bunch of robots could perform, but the entire system would have to be mobile, or the homes all made out of sections that can be assembled on site. Perhaps a hybrid of the two. Mobile homes are probably at the forefront of that industry right now.
Should they ever invent a robot that can actually build a complete home, I'll be the first one in line to buy one.

Some are mobile some aren’t.
