My cousin is selling me his g35 to me this weekend, what do we/I have to do to make everything official? When do I have to contact my current insurance company to tell them I'm switching cars?

Go to your state's DMV website and they'll tell you everything you need. It's different in every state.

Get insurance from your insurance company. Take proof of insurance to tag agency. Pay taxes, title transfer etc. Enjoy.

Here in Oklahoma we have 30 days after the date of sale to transfer the title to our name. It's probably something similar for each state. If you can get a bill of sale saying you bought it for a dollar, taxes are cheaper.

Since I have done this in California here are the steps.
1. Call your insurance company, get the car registered on your insurance.
2. Have your cousin write up a bill of sale for the vehicle (you can get a template from the DMV website)
3. Have your cousin fill out the information on the title for sale/transfer
4. Head down to the DMV with signed title and bill of sale, you will have paperwork and fees to pay.

Check the California DMV website, they have guides and places to download documents there.

i think most currency exchanges will take care of you as well. One stop shop type of deal just pay them a little bit extra.

and check to see if the state allows $0 transfers between relatives and if so put that down for selling price.

It's California, you will likely need to have it smogged before you can register it. This is the seller's responsibility.

Family transfers do not extend to cousins. Only direct lineage.
