Steely Dan WTF is that?

Hey, I'm over 40. Some of the older Steely Dan I like a lot. Gave the new album two full listens and decided it was not even worth burning a copy of-very mediocre in my opinion. About the weakest Steely Dan album I ever heard.

The Grammys have a long tradition of absurd winners-remember Jethro Tull winning the first heavy metal award? James Taylor winning last year?

Admittedly, the year 2000 was a pretty weak year for mainstream music, but there must have been 50 albums that were heads & shoulders above the Steely Dan one.

I will agree that the Steely Dan album was not his best work by any means, but still deserved that award this year. A toss up of Radiohead and U2 for 2nd in my mind.

How could you even say that? Steely Dan is incredible. With them nominated how could you even think there would be compitition?

<edit> No, Steely Dan is not for 'old people', I'm 16 and I've been listening to them for years. </edit>

Steely Dan winning with a mediocre album (compared to their past efforts) really speaks volumes about the mainstream talent level in the industry today.

Now Beck is one new guy that is talented, but unfortunately his latest album wasn't up to snuff, comparatively.

I was definitly extremely pissed off that Steely Dan won best album....I didn't even know Steely Dan existed anymore...I'm not sayin NSync should have won, I'm sayin Steely Dan shouldn't have.

And what's with Sting winning best male pop? THAT should have gone to NSync, NO DOUBT.

And I like Macy Gray, but how can she win best female pop, what's with this, do they not know how to classify music or somethin?

hehe, i think i'm the only one who wanted the corrs to win best pop group/duo I just heard of them and hooked.. hell, i didn't even know they were up for a grammy until i read something about them losing to steely dan.

I should have been more clear in the title of this thread. I am well aware of Steely Dan! I was just implying that since I can't believe they won. IMO, Beck should have won. He did win a few last year, and I would like to see him score that Grammy! He is an &quot;artist&quot; in the best sense of the word (at least how it applies to music) At least the Academy reccognizes that, especially since he does not get lots of airplay. Some day you will see him up there accepting his award and doing a funny little robot dance.
