That Steely Dan album (like all of them) is awesome... I'm glad that the academy was able to look past the "usual suspects" and gave it to a very deserving artist.

Edit: Valhalla1... it was for Best Album of the Year. Where did you get POP from?

Are you calling me old????

I'm 30 and I would've voted for Steely Dan.

Now Jethro Tull for Metal years ago.... THAT should've gone to Metallica. :p

Steely Dan is back?! HOO-RAY!! Aja was one hell of an album, Steely Dan has a great sound, unique and very Jazzy. Of course calling Steely Dan "Pop" is rather stupid. I mean, name another band that sounds remotely like Steely Dan. Steely Dan is Steely Dan, there is no other way to adequately categorize the band. BTW, who the hell are "beck" and "radiohead"? Seriously, I have never heard of either.

EDIT: Steely Dan is not a "who", Steely Dan is the name of a songwriting/singing pair that writes their music and uses whatever studio band is handy to provide the background music. Just for perspective, I am 18.

Not saying you're old. Just saying that the majority of the voters are probably over the age of 40. And probably have never even heard the albums they are voting for.

I was definately pleased with the results during tonight's show. It could of sucked, the only thing I didn't agree with alot was Jill Scott not getting an award.

I thought Blue Man Group should've gotten best instrumental. Not Joe Jackson. Guess the foundation didn't understand that what often sounded like guitars was actually PVC pipe. :p

Anyway... look at some old Grammy awards show winnders and you'll find most of the bands that won are "who are they" even to us "old farts". If we gave a Grammy to Eminem or Radiohead or Beck, people would be like "who's that?" five or ten years from now. Goodness knows I've all but forgotten Radiohead since "Creep" and Beck since his "Mellow Gold" album and I don't know who the hell Eminem is (selective memory).

Anyone think it was weird that the soundtrack for Me, Myself, and Irene was filled with Steely Dan songs, but none of them performed by Steely Dan? Was that a joke I missed, or do the Farrely brothers just really like Steely Dan?

its the same reason lenny kravitz ruled last year... the seasoned artist know what people like and want... the newer artists are just in it for money.

the seasoned veterans will ALWAYS win
