always thought it was incredibly tacky to craft all that victorian era exterior and then put some modern mass-produced disposable electronics into it. i look at it and all I see is the cheap junk inside. i mean, windows xp?! seriously?

how is 9 years "behind the curve?"
LAUGHABLY out of context. Just why do you think I qualified it with "When it comes to steam punk" if the question didn't rely on that bit of info? You know good and well that I wasn't stumped at how something/anything could be "behind the curve" in 9 years.

When it comes to steam punk, how is 9 years "behind the curve?"

I'm saying that the style intended to look well over a century old doesn't suddenly fall "behind the curve" in 9 years.
Uh, how does one 'pretend to be insightful'? Someone's 'insightfulness' is something that is perceived by others. I can't control how you interpret things; sorry.
I can't believe I have to explain "how" one can pretend to be insightful, but here: You attempted to display insight you didn't have and you failed. You're failing harder by making this ridiculous assertion that the word "insightful" can only be applied from an external POV.

And you'll notice I made no mention of you/was not replying to you.
Except that I noticed quite the opposite. You specifically called me out as a desperate wanna-be hipster because I mentioned the QuakeCon2003 display in a relevant thread. You then implied that the date was had some bearing on how relevant steam punk is today, as if something designed to look 150 years old is suddenly dated a mere 9 years later. Gee, how "insightful" of me (see what I did there?).

I simply pointed out how it seemed relevant that internet nerds liked this fad back around 2000-2005. It has generally receded from popularity. Thus, BAM, it's now 'hip' in the worst of ways.
Dunno where you get that. I don't see it mentioned any more than when I first heard of it. I also don't see where anyone thinks it's any more hip today than it was around 2000-2005. One thread and you're condemning the entire thing as a new bandwagon. Your whole premise is flawed. A retro style needed to become retro again to be hip? WTF is going through your head, man?! Who thinks a 150 year old style is acceptable in 2000-2005 but must be condemned as retro hipster sheik less than 10 years later? I don't particularly like it, but your own personal justification for hating it makes zero sense.

Kinda like you.
I am "'hip' in the worst of ways" because I said I saw a steam punk computer once? Huh?

I assumed his thinking was that this certain bit of 'history' was timeless. I guess I pushed the buttons of a butthurt 'steampunk enthusiast.' I'll send him an apologetic gift. Maybe a monocle or a tophat, or something else turn-of-the-century that has nothing to do with 'steam' or 'punk.'
Nope. You totally misread and misinterpreted everything and made an ass of yourself, unless, [I saw a steam punk modded computer once] = ["steampunk enthusiast"] to you.

I like how threads on the weirdest subjects always end up turning into nerd rage fights here.

I can understand politic and religion threads turning into a nerd fight, but a steampunk computer, really?

(Overly long post defending steampunk bullshit)

You just have no style. None.

I never pretended to, which is why it's so strange to be ridiculed as if I was trying to be part of some hipster thing.

Edit: Wait, you actually think I was "defending steampunk bullshit?" Wow. One person assumes that [I saw a steam punk PC once] = ["steampunk enthusiast"] and now you think I'm a steam punk fan too. I wasn't "defending steampunk." I was refuting his misguided personal attack on ME. Get it? There's a big difference.

For some reason this reminded me of the moron I saw walking around with a handset attached to his iPhone.

He was seriously walking down the street talking on what looked to be a house-phone...coiled chord and all...

Uh, it's a joke. You can buy those at any novelty shop. Hell, you can buy Bluetooth ones without the cord at Think Geek. Why so serious?

That is one of the most ridiculous looking pieces of shit I have ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes on.

It was his whole ensemble...I don't think it was a joke to him.

Mind you, this was passing through the most hipster area of the city.
