I'm a big fan of the steampunk movement. I've had a keyboard on the backburner for awhile now. I need to get the motivation to make it happen.

most of the price is in the keyboard. steampunk keyboards alone can run $500+

But with time and a few flea market/trhift store runs you can do the desk and accessories for less than $200.

the top looks like the top of an old grandfather clock. cost like $20 in supplies to do that to a table. vintage or faux vintage decor is usually cheap or free.

It's a sort of computer art thing... I've seen it quite a bit, but I think it's already past its peak in popularity.

I remember seeing a guide to making those keyboards... they aren't simple. Fully mechanical, and everything else is handmade. I think if you could do that, a steampunk bezel for your monitor, and a steampunk cabinet that can hide a PC, then you could keep it as some sort of steampunk heirloom.

If I go to Google and search "steampunk pussy" and look at images, I get nothing. If I do the same on Bing, I get fappable material and good, solid related recommended image searches. I have the option to filter explicit results off on both. Just one more reason I've been preferring Bing lately.

*edit - Nevermind. Changing my search terms evened things out.

In general, I find steampunk to be lame and played out. Subject at hand displays excellent workmanship and concept though.

I read "steampunk" and came in this thread to roll my eyes at the hipster bullshit contained within.

You may continue.

That's why 'steampunk' is generally so 'hipster douche.' It's just a silly aesthetic idea.

When you confine it to a game or a novel or whatever, and genuinely explore the whole 'what if the integrated circuit was never invented' kind of idea...well, I'm still not interested, but I can see the alternate-reality appeal.

I can also look at something that someone built just for the sake of being 'neat'...if it does something neat. Using steam to do some kind of complex job that steam is generally not used for = possibly neat.

But just 'ooh a computer with wood and brass and shit' is kind of completely retarded. I don't see the thing in the OP as being any different from 'look at my Halo-themed Xbox' or something.

Not sure how steampunk PCs are hipster, really. Hipsters use macbooks...

Part of the point...hipsters aren't concerned with what's inside. Hence expensive computer facade because it looks 'cool.' The 'I saw one at QuakeCon 2003' thing is also pretty relevant as hipsters are trying to be...hip...but are generally oblivious to how 'behind the curve' they are.

Oh, vintage clothes! So cool and unique!

Okay, there, Kramer from a 1995 episode of Seinfeld...

You pretend to be so insightful, but I'm just sayin' that there was a pretty nice steam punk PC that was featured at QuakeCon2003 in case those interested want to look it up. When it comes to steam punk, how is 9 years "behind the curve?"

Now, mind explaining why you tried to make such a long stretch? Was it just to drag me in and ridicule me? What does that do for you?

Uh, how does one 'pretend to be insightful'? Someone's 'insightfulness' is something that is perceived by others. I can't control how you interpret things; sorry.

And you'll notice I made no mention of you/was not replying to you. I simply pointed out how it seemed relevant that internet nerds liked this fad back around 2000-2005. It has generally receded from popularity. Thus, BAM, it's now 'hip' in the worst of ways.

Kinda like you.

I assumed his thinking was that this certain bit of 'history' was timeless. I guess I pushed the buttons of a butthurt 'steampunk enthusiast.' I'll send him an apologetic gift. Maybe a monocle or a tophat, or something else turn-of-the-century that has nothing to do with 'steam' or 'punk.'
