Steaming chicken breasts?

Putting my weight loss program into high gear by having mostly steamed for for a while -anyone know how long to steam chicken breast (boneless) before it's safe to eat? Also, should I add seasoning before cooking or after? I'm borrowing my mom's steamer and I don't have the directions.

Thanks!

I've heard that it can be as much as an hour. I prefer thin-slicing and then stir-frying with no oil.

If you're going to add herbs, do it after the steaming. Otherwise they'll be limp.

Yuck...the only reason I would steam chicken would be for chicken salad. Just pan fry them with PAM or broil them or bake them.

This sounds really, really odd - I want to deprogram myself a little. I think a few weeks of eating bland food would help me rethink my approach with food, to think of food as something I need to live and not as something that's tasty and fun. I know that sounds odd, but it's not just for the health reasons - I have a lifelong addiction to food I'm trying to break.

why don't you bake chicken, the last thing you want to do is eat raw chicken and get really sick because of it. baking and steaming cant be that different...

I can't understand why "This sounds really, really odd..." Spray on food release spray is designed to put the minimal amount of oil in place for frying. But blow off the PAM, it's expensive and the sprayer is poorly designed.

Just go to a restaurant supply and buy a can of spray on food release spray, probably canola oil. Find one that doesn't contain water. I've got a can of Crisco Professional Anti-Stick Spray Pan Release For Fat Free Cooking. It's made of canola oil and says it has "0 Grams TRANS FAT per serving." That means it's legal in NYC.

Normal breasts take about 15-20 minutes, but the time depends on thickness. If you slice the chicken it may cook in about 10-12 minutes. Easy way to tell is slice cooked chicken and if it's pink on the inside ... don't eat it.

This looks like a good way to eat steamed chicken
