can someone tell me what game x-com is similar to? i hear it's one of the best games from the past but want to know if it's something i'll like.

Hard to say, its a turn based stratagy/shooter game i guess, similer to fallout tactics, or maybe jagged alliance, just buy it its full of win. I bought the same complete pack for $10 and consider it worth every penny.

Good idea, but all I'm seeing on my PayPal account is xfering money from a bank, or from a GreenDot Prepaid Visa. They must have changed the policy. Been forever since I used Paypal :(

Hit the profile tab and then the add a credit card option. It should work as long as you don't go over the amount on the card.

i like city building games, but Tropico 3 seemed too complex. I only played the demo.

It's not complex at all especially if you compare it to something like SimCity 4.

You build income from farming, tourism, industry, logging or mining. You plop down those buildings, set wages and away you go. You'll need to setup housing for your people, teamsters and garages for goods distribution to the dock. You fill in your island with entertainment and places of worship and try to balance things out.

tropico holiday sale was 19.99 not 28.

Eh it was a month ago and I spent $160 on the sale so the details are sketchy, the point is that it's less now then it was then.

I've heard people compare it to Jagged Alliance 2. JA2 is a combo of turned base and realtime. I've never played X-com so I can't say for sure but I remember a lot of JA2 players saying X-com was a lot like it in game play.

Another vote for the Freedom Force games. They actually aren't that old and don't look that bad today. I think the first game has a better story but the second one has a number of gameplay improvements.

that worked, awesome sauce! thanks man. D/L'ing now, mind blowing what I'm getting for $2. Even if the games are old the price is freaking right :D

I would say its turn based raiding is like fallout but other than that its pretty different. If you can deal with crappy graphics, I would say get it. X-com to me is like the wing commander games, classics, original and of need of a remake though still fun to play. Even though the graphics still look the same(old) the aliens still freak me out.....!@!!

I ended up buying xcom during the holiday sale for like 4 bucks but it was worth it. I bought freedom force because ive only heard good things and for 2 dollars you really cant go wrong. I also bought tropico 3....I was tempted to get it for 20 during the holiday sale...I am glad I waited.

It isn't complex. In fact, I kind of stopped playing it because it was too simple and too easy. But it was fun for about 8 missions and worth $13 if you like city builder type games.

After some play, I conclude Tropico is worth the reduced price. Certainly not worth paying whatever the regular price is.

Bit on X-Com. Have to say seeing "Microprose" in the Developer column in Steam is a little funny.

Bit on Tropico 3 after playing the demo. Love the concept of being a dictator of a Caribbean island. I especially love pitting the US and USSR against each other.

Definitely not as complex as some other E:TW, M2:TW, but definitely more "fun"

Yep, finally finished FarCry 2 and now installing Tropico 3. it'll be nice to play something different. T3 looks like it will be fun.

FF looks pretty damn good in 1920x1200, I'm only getting sound from 1 speaker though. Software only too, hardware sound isn't working. ARGH!! Is anyone else having this problem?? Game's as fun as I remember though.

specs - Razer Barracuda sound card with CMI8588 chipset.

Not having any kind of manual sucks. I'll need to surf the net for some guides I guess. I did okay with the tutorial but couldn't get any farming exporting going in the Tropico 3 campaign for some reason. Something I wasn't doing right but couldn't figure out what it was.

Make sure you have some farms feeding your population, then other farms exporting something valuable (coffee is always nice). Build a garage near the farms linked to your road system and make sure your teamsters are sufficiently staffed by adjusting their wages. Also don't forget to customize your background for each mission - farmer is a good choice for that one obviously.

go to the game's page on steam and look on the right side. the manual is almost always there in PDF format.

I bought X-COM, and I am completely addicted. I suck at the game pretty badly, and lost my main base the first time the aliens attacked, but I love the game.

Im digging tropico 3 with the new graphics, basically just like the first(glad i paid 13 for it). Freedom Force is also fun though I have only done the first mission or so.
