I loved the Penumbra games simply for the fact that they scared the HECK out of me. After playing so many gruesome and supposedly horrifying games, you get a little "numb" to disgusting beasts and flying body parts. These games are remarkable in that they create an atmosphere of total horror and desolation out of seemingly nothing. I've never felt so desparately ALONE in a game as with this series. In fact, there's so little there that the first time you actually do encounter another living (I use that term loosely, and you'll know why after you play the games) thing, you'll need a change in undergarments... Totally worth the $5.

^ This. Penumbra Black Plague was one of the few genuinely scary games I have played. If you enjoy puzzle combined with suspense/horror, this is worth far more than $5.

picked it up today...so far so good, and I'm only on Penumbra Overture...hear Black Plague is superior though. Already got my $5 out of it!

Penumbra deal is still active FYI...I forgot to purchase it yesterday and just finished checking out on Steam (9:20 EST)

Deals over for the weekend. Still two games on sale. Light of Altair and Football Manager Live.

warning, stay away from conan

LOLz! Can you say epic fail?

That one flopped faster than hellgate london...

Whats the word on guild wars? Are the servers still up, does anyone play? I dont hear much of anything about that one, a little curious since its free to play...I have some family far away and that could be a decent way to spend some time with them. They cant afford the monthly rates on the "normal" MMOs. I figure since I havnt heard horror stories like I do with conan or warhammercraft it might be decent for the money (free).

They've got some deals on Bethesda and Strategy First games right now. Anybody played Port Royale 2? Worth $4? It sounds like Sid Mier's Pirates, but with the ability to build things. Is that what it's like?

Despite being unfinished upon release, Empire: Total War still shows the brilliance of the series. And with the 1.3 patch being released on the 22nd of this month, the game should be everything it should have been upon release. This is a great deal.

Are six special units worth an additional $10?

I'd buy it if I didn't already have the regular version but I love the series. That being said, No I don't think they're worth it. They should have released 1 special unit for each major nation, that would make it easier to rationalise the extra charge.

Unless they finally fixed it, Heroes V is pretty poorly optimized (AI turns take an annoyingly long time to complete), especially compared to earlier games in the series.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic also for $4.99.

This was a very underrated game when it came out - it was overshadowed by other high profile games which came out at the same time. It uses the Halflife 2 graphics and physics engine i believe. Short game, but recommended. I would say its the best of the weekend sale so far.

Unless I'm missing something, it's cheaper to buy the HOMMV pack at $12.99 and Dark Messiah separately at $4.99 😕
