Steam Weekend Deal: Alien vs Predator (new one) 33% off

I heard it was meh at best, so I've held off. Can anyone that owns it comment?

Even if the single player isn't all that great - if the multiplayer makes up for it, I'd buy it. Multiplayer on the original was wicked fun, aside from server connectivity issues and numerous bugs. 😛

There are some reviews (closer to the end of the thread) and discussion here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2023592&highlight=avp just have to avoid all of the threadcraps and tangents about Steam and eBay. 🙄

Yeah, it's getting cheap quick for a reason. It's not very good. The single player campaigns all have annoying flaws, and the multiplayer might as well not exist - giving 66% of all players instant kill backstabs wasn't such a great idea. Of course, since you'll be waiting to find a match for 3-5 minutes in their oh-so-swell matchmaking, only to discover the match you're in lasts 3-5 minutes and then you need to find another, you probably won't be in the game long enough to actually mind that.

Short version: If you like single player, avoid. If you like multiplayer, avoid. If you like staring at matchmaking screens, it's your game.

Really tempted, but 33% off $50 is still $30, and that's $30 I can put towards Metro 2033, which actually sounds pretty damn good. So, I guess I'll get Metro this weekend.

So much not worth it.

EU folks have had access to a 20e retail box at some online retailers from day one. That tells you all about the quality. Sorry, I don't remember what the retailers were. I didn't buy even at that price. Demo saved me a lot of money I guess.

Do yourself a favor and put that $33 towards Metro 2033. Amazing game, I'm about 3 hours into it and it's by far the most impressive game I've played in a long while.

I pirated this and dismissed it after about 20 minutes. I didn't even get through the training missions for any of them except the predator, which I found to be almost interesting. The game seemed to be pretty dull and not really worth my time. It didn't help that the tunnels scared the piss out of as a Marine nor that I didn't like the environment as a Predator. Sure it's a jungle, but sometimes, things just aren't your taste.

With the crappy melee, block, and heavy guard crushing 2ndary melee mechanics, im not surprised to hear that the multiplayer sucks, which is why I'd be playing any game anyway.

The game must be that bad that it's already on sale on Steam beyond the initial 10% pre order price D:

lol

in the demo we used macro to spam melee every 10ms, was f'n hilarious, such a terribly implemented instant kill method...:awe:

To be honest I really thought I'd buy AVP but I decided to wait for some reviews and the general consensus (as a side note, each time I say this I can't help but think of Legion in Mass Effect 2, damn you BioWare), and it certainly was a wise decision now that the dust fell and I can see what's the game all about and how it plays out, I know enough of it at the moment that I wouldn't like it had I bought it. I went with Bad Company 2 instead with the money I saved by not buying AVP, and I think I'll go get me Sanitarium on GoG with the left overs I still got after buying BC2.

LOLz...

The most understandable advice one can give.. 😀

Haha, oh wow.

I have to wonder in general why devs do not routinely give inputs cooldowns and (small) buffers, or replace (push push push) with (hold). Using unprocessed input to determine how fast something happens is so obviously exploitable. Applies to many FPSs with their rapid-fire pistols and whatnot.
