Anyone (male) that plays a female character in a game because they "Don't want to look at a guy's ass all day" are closet trannies/gender benders.

How else could they pull off acting like a woman so well? I mean playing a game is kinda like roleplaying.

Right?

....right?

I never understood that argument. When I play a male character I'm busy looking at the what's going in the game, not my character's ass...

When we get photo realistic graphics I will probably put more hours into playing female characters. :whiste:

I've played as a female character in MMOs because I liked the model design. I never acted like a female or pretended to be a female to other players.

What about games like Tomb Raider or Mirror's Edge where the only playable character is a female? Are you still considered a tranny then?

When I switched to my daughters name in UT2k4, I also switched to a female avatar. A lot of people thought I was a chick, and I never said one way or the other unless someone specifically asked. Gamers(at least in the UT franchise) seem to be friendlier to females :^D

This is a good argument, one I hadn't considered. I generally don't actively choose a female when playing games, because I like to "pretend" that I'm the main character. However, I'd never really thought about the fact that it's never been difficult to do the same if the protagonist is chosen for me.

Same.

I think this argument applies to 3rd person games. Both of the ones you mentioned are first person...Portal being one you can BARELY tell you are a woman since you're mute.

Tomb Raider is 3rd person.

I do think the majority imagine themselves as the main character when they play, but I approach games as interactive, visual stories about other people, so the playable character being male or female makes no difference to me.

I do think this is why I greatly prefer games that have some kind of story to them and why I find mindless hack & slash games so boring.

I guess the only thing I don't understand is people that do this in MMO's. Why anyone would want their persistent online persona to be the opposite gender of themselves is beyond me. I could understand if that person actually had gender issues... but the people that pretend that it's completely normal, that's foreign to me.

I've come across this multiple times in games. Usually it's the lame excuse we talked about earlier or just a "free stuff bro!"

I'd rather not play a character that attracts lonely virgin faps. Some of the messages my female friends would get in game were absolutely hilarious.

Then again I also think back to when I played SWG. If you play a female character, as a dancer, and spend time in the cantina there is definitely something wrong with you.

i don't understand why it would matter. i play characters that are female and male. in WoW my main was a female, but my next most played character was a male. i had many alts that were both male and female. Now that I am playing SW:TOR, I have the same set up pretty much. My main is a female character, my second and third most played characters are male. Maybe if you are really really REALLY into the RPG part of the game, it matters more? I don't know. I guess i just never play any of my characters as though they were some actual aspect of my persona. I just don't identify with them that much that it matters to me what gender they are.

and now that I think about it, most of the people i game with on a regular basis do the same thing. they have characters of both genders that they switch back and forth between.

I'm not judging; I just don't understand it. I look at it from the social aspect; it would drive me crazy if I had to explain to everyone that I met that I was not, in fact, a female.

not any more crazy than playing a female and having people disbelieve you really are female and not just playing one. or people finding out you are a girl and asking for pics... :p

i'm not judging either, and i didn't mean to imply you were, sorry. ;)
im just thinking out loud i guess. maybe because i game with a group of people i know and rarely meet new people that i regularly converse with, explaining myself doesnt happen a lot.

Just curious, what would be wrong?

I guy I used to work with always played a girl, and would actively try to seduce men in games. He would keep a collection and create drama relationships, then share his exploits every morning. It was both hilarious and creepy at what he could talk people into doing online D:

That seems more embarrassing for your friend then the other men he's fooling around with.

hmm I wonder if the same percent of women play as male characters as men play female.
