It's in hot deals but worth reposting here IMO.

Total War Collection:
Rome Gold Edition
Medieval 2
Empire
Napoleon Imperial Edition
Shogun 2

All for $64.99. Great deal if you don't already have them. Lasts through the weekend.

A number of these are also on sale on amazon if you're looking to pick up the games separately.

I have Medieval Wars and Rome but haven't played them yet. I started one but the initial learning stage is so tedious I just skipped it for things I knew I liked right away. Like a good book if a game doesn't appeal to me in first hour or two I have more things to do and more games to play instead of wasting more time with hope something will give. I understand that can be a dangerous attitude and I might miss a game I like if I could stick with it more. Alas thats one of the perils of the info age. Good game makers like Valve dont kill people with games that take 4 - 8 hours just to learn basics.

It's a deep strategy game (and truth be told, it's really not even all that deep...or strategic). Some folks appreciate games with a little depth. Why? Because it is usually infinitely more rewarding, and therefore fun, once you get the hang of it.

I shudder to think of what you would think of a Civilization game.

The Total War series is the kind of strategy game that on it's surface appears to be extremely strategic, and complex. In the end however, many of your choices don't end up with realistic reactions from the faction AI, or end up not mattering at all. So setting up very thought out strategies can sometimes feel like a waste of time.

That said, I've always thoroughly enjoyed the series for what it is, I just try not to get too carried away with it anymore.

As I said in my post, I'm not knocking the game and if someone likes a game I don't try to tell them they are wrong. That would be silly.

I just have an off and on kind if schedule and one day I can game for 6 six hours - and then might not get back to it for 2 weeks. I find I can start some games without going through a lengthy "boot camp" that I might forget about two weeks latter when I play again.
