Steam question for new computer

I am building a new computer as I type this, well as soon as I am done. And I want to install my half life 2 saved games, and all that on the new computer. I purchased it online however, is there a way for me to transfer the files so that steam will recognize them, and speed up the install, instead of downloading everything new from the internet?
