Steam problem

Ever since I built this new rig I've been having problems with steam... I've posted on numerous forums but no one knows what causes it or how to fix it. My taskbar gets filled what looks like steam, but they are blank.. and I can't close them or click on them. One person said they had the same problem after reformatting their HD, but didn't know how to fix it or what caused it. Has anyone ever had this happen? Or know how to fix it? I've tried uninstalling steam and reinstalling a few times, validating steam/half life 2 files, but neither worked... looking for some help. I'm thinking it has to do with my RAID 0 setup but i'm not sure.
