I was listening to the FLOSS Weekly podcast today and the guest, Jono Bacon, the Ubuntu Community Manager, hinted at the possibility Steam might appear on Ubuntu phone in the future. To be clear, he stated that Valve's relationship with Ubuntu (their choice Linux OS) might lead to that, but he didn't state any current development around that, and Ubuntu Phone development is still relatively early as there aren't any handsets shipping yet or for a while.
But this sounds exciting, especially with their goal of having Ubuntu applications and the interface (Unity) running seamlessly on desktop, smartphones, tablets, and television. A Steam app with cross-platform support (perhaps in different modes, so desktop users don't have a major competitive advantage), cloud content sync, and good multiplayer games would be a big draw for the OS.
I don't mean to get anyone's hopes up, but perhaps more interest could drive more developers to push the platform further. I'm hope I'm not the only one hoping for this to happen. That podcast interview sheds a light on the goals of Ubuntu Phone and their end goals, it's well worth a listen.
