So I have Half Life2 and Cs source installed on my machine and it takes 16 gb of space.

Is there any way I can cut this down?

 That seems a bit excessive. You sure you don't have any other games/mods on there?

Probably a lot of that space being used is due to sprays in CS: S and those annoying "First Kill", "God Like"; sound files that servers try to make you download.

I've got HL, TFC, DoD, CS, HL:Source, Blue Shift, HL 2, Lost Coast, CS: Source, DoD Source, HL 2 Deathmatch, and HL Deathmatch: Source installed. All that is only using 9.8 gigs of space. Something ain't quite right in your steam folder. Maybe someone has been hiding porn in there.

Or any mods that you play, like zombie mod, warcraft, RPG, Starcraft, and sometimes custom gungame skins.

Just a few years ago, games used to take ~1 gig of space and I thought that was a lot.

Nowadays you need 8 gigs for the standard game.

It's crazy, I used to backup all my junk on 1 cd-rw, now I'm lucky to fit it all on 4 dvds.

and its out of control :(
Between my XBOX stuff, music, photos, and windows, takes about 180gb leaving me 120gb or so for games and apps (office, vs.net, etc) in the end I can only have like steam+5 other games installed at any one time...

and then to top it off they make you leave the DVDs in the drive.

Arses.

Every time I want to play a new game its a search to see which one I can uninstall.

There is nothing else inside steam.

I just reinstalled Steam and just Cs source.

"only" 4.5 gigs. I might want to install HL2 later on.

I had so much junk in my steam folders. I forgot to save all my key binds and I forgot how to do them. What a pain in the a$$.

16GB should not be a big fat hunk of your hard drive. If it is you need more HD.

16gb is a hunk off even 500gb drives, who you crappin?

It's less than 5% off the drive. A 500GB HDD is around $100, which means each gig is about 20 cents. 16GB is nothing in this day and age.

Even then, 16GB seems excessive. My Steam folder is less than 10GB, and I have HL2, HL2:Ep1, CS:S, HL2: Lost Coast and several demos as well.

It's probably all the crap textures, skins and sounds downloaded off several custom servers like some others said.

Ahar!

Well you can always do it again but write them all down or save them somewhere.

I meant that 16GB is excessive for the things he had installed into his Steam account, considering I have more stuff in there and barely hit 10GB.
