So, is there any worry about the Steam forum account being compromised? If I remember correctly, it's a separate account from the actual Steam account.

It is a separate account. I guess some people did reuse their logins, emails and passwords though, to remember them easier?

True, but as long as it's not the same as your email address, then good ol Steam Guard saves the day 🙂

Even if they got a dump of the passwords, they would have to hack them. So let's hope Valve employed Soy Sauce worth of salt ( 😛 ) on those hashes.

Vbulletin stores the passwords encrypted and salted. It would be almost impossible for someone to extract the passwords from a database dump.

And yes, the forum username and password is separate from your steam account.

It's easy to hack Valve/Steam. The last time Gabe was hacked the Master Password was Hamburger, apparently all he did was change it to Cheeseburger. It was only a matter of time before it happened again.

LOL are you for real? That is absolutely hilarious.

steam forums are way to much troll and way to little moderation. They are a complete wasteland of PURE CRAP.

The only time i ever go there is if im trying to figure out how to get a game to work on steam and im having issues and steam forums happen to come up in a google search, and even then i usualy read 4-5 responses and ragequit my browser 🙂

Not sure why all of the hate, I have found a ton of good info related to my games on the steam forums. It also helps when a game isn't working properly, someone usually has a solution posted, or better yet a patch. For instance, Max Payne had an audio patch linked on the forums that I was able to find about 5 minutes after I installed the game.

Granted there are trolls and irrelevant posts, but you get that anywhere, especially on gaming forums.

Yup.

I laughed.

Also, the Steam forums don't totally suck. Yes, there's a lot of whiners and trolls, but there's also a lot of useful information if needs be. Also, for indie developers who often interact with the community, the Steam forums are a good place to post suggestions and feedback.
