Now would one be correct in saying this is a "These are titles that are COMPATIBLE with Steam for Linux, but if you just so happen to run Windows, you're good too" sale?

Yup you are correct. Since they are all Steamplay titles you can download it for PC/Mac/Linux (as long as available). They just picked the ones that work for Linux

I'm looking forward to seeing the stats after the sale. Compared to the PC gaming community as a whole, the number of people who use linux and have the ability to successfully install Steam, install games, and then successful play those games with no difficulties is incredibly small.

Virtually every game has the potential for dependency issues and other problems, especially when dealing with drivers. Maybe Valve can come up with an elegant way to deal with this problems that can improve linux in general.

I hope it succeeds.

Picked up 5 or 6 cool games, for like 11 bucks. Great sale, I hate paying full price for some of those games, but 50-75% off, easy sale.

I might pick up Amnesia tonight. I know it's been this price before, but somehow I never bought it. I played the demo about a year ago and really enjoyed it.

How come the old DOS games that are listed as Windows compatible don't have an option to download on OS X or Linux? (Which both have perfectly adequate versions of DOSBox, which work great with the files download from Steam on my Windows box.)

Nothing really for me to buy. Just a note if you do plan on running these games on Linux there's still a few dependencies and tweaks that need to be done by the end user. For instance some don't run on 64bit systems.

I'm sort of in a no-buy mode until I finsih off some of my backlog but I am curious if anyone has played:
Unit of Command
and if it is good for casual play ?

Unit of Command is interesting. Very simple, yet very difficult to win. I had to go through the tutorial a couple times to fully understand the unit stats, how combat, movement and area of control works.

Also, in order to get to some of the scenarios you have you beat the previous map in a certain number of moves. Not a long game in terms of number of scenarios, but because there is no time limit during your turn, you can sit there for 10 minutes plotting out your strategy and each piece's move, and the expected reaction of the computer AI. Very similar to chess, in that regard.
