Thanks for the heads up - I hesitated over the TF2 $10 deal a few weeks ago, but picked it up this time.

Mass Effect is only a few bucks off the regular price..I think I'll hold out for a better deal. I still have to beat Bioshock and Fallout 3. I might get Clear Sky, Civ IV and IL2 for $49.97..

I believe Amazon is selling Mass Effect for 19.99 with free shipping right now. But the non Steam edition has restrictive DRM.

You sure about Bioshock? Last I read about it, it still had it.

I need to revise my statement a little bit: There's no official word from 2K but all the DRM restrictions are gone. I downloaded the game yesterday. Unlimited installations, and you needn't be online to play (Steam must be installed though and the game must be activated on your computer), game can burned to CD/DVD. And no annoying CD-checks, of course...

Just started getting into IL2 🙂.

It's been more than a year since I last used my joystick, and I forgot how much it sucked :frown: (broken rudder, among other things). Tried using my gamepad and keyboard+mouse for a while, but went back to the crappy joystick. At least I can get kills with it, instead of spending all of my time trying to keep from losing control and crashing.

Thanks for posting about this OP, much appreciated. Spent about $70 last night - so much for my WoW addiction 😉

Anybody know of any simpler, Myst-esque games on Steam? Looking for something for my Dad, and he loves Fantasy games, but wrist-killers like Diablo/Baldurs/etc... don't appeal to him. RPGs (was thinking about the Witcher) would probably be a bit out of his league, too.

The Longest Journey pack
I loved these two games. They're adventure games with great puzzles and great plots. The original was absolutely enthralling. You could spend only $8.99, get the original and be very happy. But at $22.49 for both, you can't go wrong.

doh! i was all excited about getting bioshock for $5...then i saw that i had no mouse cursor once i loaded up the game (running an x850xt). looks like i need to buy a new videocard with shader 3. =P

Get the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, it's $30 everywhere and is a pretty good stick. I think I got it for like 50 a year or so ago.

I have a Logitech Force 3D -- that's the joystick with the broken twist rudder 😛. Also, I think my Force 3D has the exact same stick layout as the Extreme 3D, and it's a little too big for comfort (if I slide my hand down to the wristrest, my thumb barely reaches the bottom left silver button).

The Saitek Cyborg Evo looks interesting, since it's fully adjustable. Barring that, I might just need to find a kiddy-sized joystick, lol...

Can you install & run process explorer (from MS) http://technet.microsoft.com/e...nternals/bb896653.aspx

Then run the game, and see if it still complains or not?

It *really* irks me that securom blacklisted that handy application, along with some virtual CD drive emulators I have.

Eh, I would advise against that. I had problems with mine (drifting/potentiometer problems) and after doing some research it seems pot-related problems with this particular stick are common.

Cyborg Evo sounds good though. I am using an old Sidewinder I bought off of someone here, uses no pots for x/y axis and has been rock solid so far.

I had problems with my Logitech joystick as well- I have a Saitek now and love it.

Thanks OP. I took this opportunity to purchase my first gaming software through Steam.

I know, I know - welcome to the 21st century, internet, etc...

Yeah, I'm having trouble getting a good calibration on it -- even with an increased dead zone, it still has a tendency to drift around like mad.

Just saw that Saitek released the newest version of the Cyborg. Sounds really nice -- adjustable and can be partially disassembled for storage. $50 on Amazon, so that's what I might end up with. I don't need anything too fancy like the X52 or any of the CH joysticks.

There's an X52 in FS/T for $65... 😉

UT3 is the latest version, although you can probably still find people playing UT and UT2k4.

What about Unreal Tournament game of the year addition?

I just remember the good 'ol days of original Unreal Tournament but figured no one plays it and they play the latest (which I guess is UT3). Is this true? Are most of the online players on UT3?

I just loved instagib. 🙂 UT3 has plenty of instagib servers?

Geez, I went back and got the Prince of Persia pack and UT3.

I haven't played any of the Princes yet what should I expect?
