i haven't been able to access the store at all today. i get "Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet"

According to Obama, server crashes are a testament to overwhelming public interest. So basically, the longer Steam is down, the more successful it is! I love fuzzy math. 😀

true, but it seems like EVERY steam sale they are unprepared for day 1 and when sales rotate it is often clogged. all day today has been a joke.

cmon newell!! if u wanna be #1 then u have to expect lots of users --- lots of servers

Think of all those new gaming PC's that got powered on for the first time today... Steam's download servers have to be slammed!

Busy day all around.. PSN was down too for a bit, Nintendo E-Shop is still down

Steam went down the toilet shortly after the free L4D2 announcement. Pretty obvious to me their servers are just flooded. I guess they never heard QoS or bandwidth allocation. Can't even get to the store to buy stuff. They're losing money haha! What's Gabe gonna do?

interesting that a lot of people with interest enough to play it when it's free haven't already bought it for $5 over the years.

I'm gonna speculate it's a move by Valve to generate new interest and hype in the L4D series to coincide with a future L4D3 announcement (remember the alleged leak a few weeks back) along with their Steam Box, and SteamOS.

I'm enjoying replaying Dragon Age: Origins right now (never did play as a mage before). It came with this new-fangled anti-Steam-lockout device called a "disc".

It struggled last christmas as well with the amount of downloads. So many games come out that require steam and they all get installed on the same day, its really not surprise that Steam struggles with that load. It would be nice if what it did was just throttle the downloads but the reality is that is hard to achieve and hard to test and it looks like they still haven't gotten it right. It'll calm down over a couple of days and all will be normal again and service will resume.

You really think they don't already do that? With nearly 7 million active accounts logged in at peak and, as of the last update, a download peak of 2.3Tbps, there's only so much capacity.
