Steam acct going nuts

Did you get a new PC or re-install Windows?

When I got my new PC in August Steam went a little batshit on me too.

Yeah, someone is definitely trying to get into your account. Also, they know your steam password (but apparently not your email/email password?). I've tip steam that it wasn't you and change your team password.

Hopefully they just tried 10 times and never got in.

Oh my! This is a grave concern for the humanity!

so true! 😀

i did change my password as soon as the emails started (10 emails in a span of an hour).
since then, no more emails. sent a message to steam support, curious what they have to say.

All you had to do was change your password, you're probably fine now. Thank his noodly goodness for Steam Guard.

I accidently hacked someones account a few weeks ago. He used a dummy email account to make the steam account, but it was my actual email account i did not use for steam just other stuff. So i just used the request password option and got access to his account since it sent it got me anyways. He just had The Orange Box on it and did not play it for like a year. lol

I just told steam about it to change his email address to that account 😛

Thats why I use pa55word instead of password. No one would guess I have substituted 5's for s's.

Good password (Or pa55word!) security starts with YOU!

I disabled Steam Guard because it would ask me for a verification code every time I tried to log in :colbert:

Good password security starts with not posting your password in these forums 😉

here's the timeline of what happened since some users were wondering:

got home last night and checked my email, noticed about 8 emails from Steam. i read it and immediately turned on my gaming rig (it's the one w/ Steam installed) to see if i still had steam access. while my rig was still starting, i got 2 other emails from steam.
as soon as my rig was up i logged on steam changed my password, accessed steam support, forwarded the messages i received w/ note asking if my account was ok.

then i went to AT - pc gaming forum to see if others had the same issue. when i didn't see anything i started the thread.

If someone else was actually trying to access your account using the correct password, then it was likely either because you told them that password at some point, or because you used that password on another compromised site. You should also change your password at any other site were it was the same as your Steam password.

It's possible however that this was just a phishing attempt (check the links in the messages) or that the messages you received are generated even when someone uses the wrong password.

Steam was mega hacked not that long ago. All forum accounts were compromised, at least.

OP: log into steam, go to steam guard, and check the box that says "disable all other computer from using this account" or something like that.
