The Civ 5 deal just isn't very good. I would like to pick it up someday, but after all the bad reviews I am not spending that much on it.

I think I will hold off for an expansion pack revamp (not just DLC) to fix the problems with Civ5, it seems to be a deeply, deeply flawed game. But, on the plus side, it is under heavy development and the devs are patching it frequently to address some of the concerns, but I am not sure if the flaws will be easily patched out...

You should be happy it's not Stronghold, Railroad Tycoon or Freedom Force.. 😉

And Civ 5 is by far not "ew". It's just that such games are for people without a life or for those that are filthy rich and have a lot of time. I played Civ 4 back in the early years of college and I threw many weeks away playing that game when I could have used those to get somewhere in life.. lol

But again, Civ 4 was a nice game(when time is available/not valuable) and so is Civ 5. I'd gladly pay like $15 for the core game + all DLC. but that is the max I would pay for it.

So I haven't played a Civ game since I was a kid but my brother says Civ IV is a really great game. However I have heard Civ V is pretty awful. Should I skip this one?

the only two types of weapons i'm using are the sniper rifle and the automatic rifle. Headshots never felt so good.

I think I got rather used to using ARs with very high accuracy... I'm talking 95-96+. You can pretty much produce head shots almost all the time and fire at a much higher rate. The only negative aspect is that sniper rifles typically have large +crit damage modifiers. Some crappy SRs don't though. It's also a bummer when you get a great SR and it has terrible zoom :\.

I found a couple of purples, it's really neat. Lvl 19 now and defeated sledge 😛 on the first try

Borderlands has an awesome opening. Only got to play it for a few minutes before leaving town, so I'll be a newer noob than all you other noobs.

I picked the chick b/c I thought you'd be staring at your person the whole time, but I guess it is all FP?

fun so far. will know more in ~2 weeks

lol! I was going to pick the chick, then decided against it precisely because I figured I wouldn't be looking at her much.

I'd probably say all of the bosses in Borderlands are pretty easy except maybe Crawmerax (Secret Armor of General Knoxx DLC 2nd playthrough end-boss). The last boss in the normal game can be a pain, but just like almost every other boss... if you don't stop moving, you're usually fine.

A piece of advice... as you're nearing the end of the first playthrough, try and keep an Electric element gun in your bag. You'll actually run into those guardian creatures in the second area (the one with Lucky) when you descend into this cave thing and the easiest way to kill them is with the fact that they're very vulnerable to electric damage.

Although, I tend to just use a very high accuracy gun and pelt the hell out of them. Class Mods with ammo regen are also very, very good. My Siren uses guns that shoot 4 bullets at once, and with that, she eats a ton of ammo. I actually have a legendary SMG that also has ammo regen just in case I use too much.

Just remember that you don't choose a character in this game purely for aesthetics ... each character has their own talent tree and essentially a specific play style. Siren is like a covert op, Brick a power-house melee character, Roland (Soldier) is well... a soldier and Mordecai (Hunter) is more of a sniper, but also works well with revolvers.

You do level your guns in this game, so you can technically use any gun you want. I do recommend trying to stick to one type of gun if you can, so you don't waste your experience on a type you rarely use. My Siren has a few different weapons leveled a decent amount, which is a waste now that she uses SMGs so much. I remedied this on Roland by using Assault Rifles for everything (including sniping -- as I mentioned, high accuracy ones work well since leveling AR specialty actually grants more accuracy).

well, I just assumed that if I'm going to have to stare at my character's ass the whole game, it might as well be the chick. the pic on the steam store led me to believe this would be the case. 🙁

anyhoo, I like her skill set anyway--or, what it appears to be. ME2 made me a fan of SMGs and pistols, so that's probably what I'll stick with anyway.
