Am I the only one, or is there anyone else out there who is tired of eating-establishments-that-barely-satisfy-the-minimum-requirements-to-be-called-restaurants calling ground & rotting horse meat "steak?" FYI - you can't get steak at Taco Hell. In my book, steak doesn't come in a burrito, it isn't breaded and fried, and it isn't ground meat of any kind. The companies that advertise for crappy "restaurants" know the power of the word "steak" - it evokes pleasant memories of summer cookouts over hot coals, a sizzling slab of beef just begging to be eaten, and grease and herbs dripping into the flames, creating smoky clouds of fragrant man-bliss. What they actually deliver often is little better than canned dog food.

Maybe I'm just a steak snob.

What about chicken fried steak? If you're disrespecting chicken fried steak, I'm afraid we've got a problem, palooka.

File ultra cheap steak under the heading "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is".

You aren't a steak snob if the only time you cook it is in the summer. You're a fair weather steak fan. ;)

I don't consider anything worthy of the name "steak" unless it's cooked on a backyard grill or at a reputable steak joint. So I just blow off all the restaurants who claim to serve "steak". It's like Bud/Miller/Coors claiming to produce beer.

I grilled two bacon wrapped filets yesterday. They were delicious.

why does my friend accompany me to an argentinian steak restaurant, and order a hamburger?

Because he's cheap but still enjoys your company?

Also, steak doesn't strictly refer to higher quality cuts of beef. Steak refers to lots of different cuts from many animals. Tuna steak fillets are wonderful!

Something that bothers me more than the abuse of the word 'steak' is steak sauce. WTF is steak sauce?

A steak should be seasoned.. Who the hell puts sauce on steak? Wasn't A-1 originally created to make old meat taste tolerable?

Unless the steak is smothered in mushroom sauce, I cannot imagine any other sauce that is worthy to be put on a steak.

Steak:
1 a : a slice of meat cut from a fleshy part of a beef carcass b : a similar slice of a specified meat other than beef <ham steak> c : a cross-section slice of a large fish <swordfish steak>
2 : ground beef prepared for cooking or for serving in the manner of a steak <hamburger steak>

I'm going to have people over for a steak dinner... charge them $10 of course.
