First time making a steak not on the grill. Used this method http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-cook-a-steak-in-the-ove-108490. Fantastic results! I don't have a proper cast iron skillet so I used my grill pan (http://store.calphalon.com/calphalon-contemporary-nonstick-11-in-square-grill-pan/403864)worked excellently. Try this at home, it takes 15 minutes and you're done.

EDIT: Okay, I made another for the pic nazis. No go ahead and tell me how terrible it looks. It tasted great! http://i.imgur.com/MUc3v3x.jpg

The pics on the site aren't very good. The sear is weak and the center is rare at best.

Which, of course, is fine if you prefer it that way.

you can get great results using the broiler.

Rare - 6 mins per side
Medium - 7-8 mins per side.

I do steaks and pork chops that way and they always turn out tender and juicy.

One pound of steak is plenty to feed two people. In fact, I've served four people on just one pound of boneless rib eye.

If someone says that about steak, I don't trust anything else they say. FOUR PEOPLE with a pound of boneless rib eye?!

Yo, OP, read the instructions for your Calphalon. It's only safe to use up to 450 degrees. Most ovens are set to broil at 500 degrees.

After reading about OP's misuse of cookware, fumes, and death... can I have your stuff?

... You're suppose to cut up the steak so we can look at the meat color.

There also needed to be a picture with it cut into, and the sear could have been better.

You guys are impossible to please. :) It was done medium, pink on the inside. That's how I like it. Maybe next time I'll post pics after I cut it. How can I get a better sear? I bought a cast iron griddle, it was in the oven on broil for 15 minutes, 30 seconds each side up ont he stove.

My MIL brought 2 inch thick bone-in New York Strips for dinner tonight... They were awesome, but were a pain to cook through so they weren't rare in the middle!
