For example my dad's girlfriend looks on hamburgers with distaste but is a avid steak fan. Just wondering if it's an elitist thing. Unless the difference in taste is that much to her. They're both about the same meat content aren't they? And perhaps both about the same healthwise? It's like she and some other steak eaters think hamburger is somehow icky like with germs. Which I don't believe anymore than for steak. I eat both but try to do so in moderation.

I love steak. Not too crazy about burgers. I dont need the bread or any other shit on there to distract from the flavor of the beef, since I dont overcook the beef to the point of tasting like shoe leather.

I love both.

I don't think it's an elitist issue going on. Isn't Australian beef expensive?

Love both but they are fairly different. Don't know too many people that are going to grind up a great piece of beef for a burger but they sure as hell will make a steak out of it.

They're both about the same meat content aren't they?

Well they both come from the same animal anyway (hopefully).

Why would you assume that somebody that likes steak would like something with a totally different texture made out of different bits of the animal? Some people dont like their food to be pre chewed.

Meat is not just meat.

Throwing the "elitist" slur in there is just daft. Why dont we all just eat the cheapest bits of beef all the time? Its all from the same animal eh?

What about hamburger lovers who dislike steak? Or at least find it very overrated.

I don't see how it's possible to be human and not like a cheeseburger. Honestly. If an evil deity appeared and told me I must choose the one food that will remain for our species after all the other foods are eradicated, it would be cheeseburgers.

I love burgers but not too crazy about steak. I'm super picky with steak, for whatever reason I only really like it near burnt on the outside but must be tender, well seasoned and certain kinds of steak sauces and typically prefer Ribeye.

However I hate burgers not seasoned that are just tossed on pan...must be charcoal or wood or well seasoned.

Ground beef is absolutely revolting. Unless it's been seasoned really really well. Or Prime.

Cheeseburger almost always means American cheese, which is also revolting.

Give me swiss cheese on my hammy anyday of the week.

hammy means hamburger. :)

Good quality steak (AAA, thick cut rib eye, striploin) >> Burgers > crap steak (thin cut, tough garbage most supermarkets sell)

Assuming she is talking about the meat portion of the burger and not the overall form factor, it seems to be a bit odd to have a "blanket" dislike.

There are so many different ways to make the meat portion of a hamburger, different amounts of fat, mixing in pork or ground bacon into the patty, etc.

For example, you say she is a steak fan but I bet she has a favorite cut and a least favorite cut. Why wouldn't it be the same for burgers?

Tell her to get an AT account and explain herself! ;)

-snip-It's like she and some other steak eaters think hamburger is somehow icky like with germs.

Well, hamburger can be more 'dangerous' than steak.

With steak, the germs are on the outside and it's easier for the cooking process to kill them.

Not so with hamburger, the grinding will distribute any germs throughout the meat. So, unlike with steak, hamburger that's undercooked in the center can make you sick.

I love both, usually would prefer a good steak to a burger, but there a times when I really crave a burger and would rather go that route.

They use an entirely different cut of meat and are prepared and cooked differently.

I like both, as long as it's a good burger and not something from McDonald's or Applebee's.

Love burgers, but steak can go to hell.

Glad I'm not the only one. Funny since I find steak LOOKS good, but every time I try it, I just don't like the taste. Burgers I love though. Even ones made with faux meat like most fast food burgers I don't mind. Nothing beats a real burger made on the BBQ though.

I don't dislike steak, but for the money involved, I'd rather have something else; like a bacon cheeseburger :^D I could count the steaks I've had in the last 20 years on one hand. Probably longer than that, but I can't remember back that far. Steak's just a plate full of expensive meh...

Yeah there's that too, I rather have more of something cheap than 1 of something expensive. :awe:

Mmmmm bacon cheeseburger....
