Hell ya!!!

============================================================
THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS IS STRAIGHT ONLINE!
============================================================

Beginning February 5, 2004, Southwest Airlines is introducing
Online Checkin systemwide, which means you can get your
boarding pass before you leave the house. All it takes is a
Ticketless reservation, access to the Internet, and a printer.
You can start checking in at 12:01 a.m. local time the day of
travel. As always, boarding passes will be distributed on a
first-come, first-served basis. Once you print your boarding
pass, simply go through the Security Checkpoint to your
Departure Gate.* Please note that you will not be able to
check in at southwest.com(R) if you have multiple passengers
on the same reservation.

Should you need to change your reservation after you print
your boarding pass, go to the Travel Center at southwest.com
and cancel your boarding pass. Then change your reservation
and print a new boarding pass. If your travel includes
connections, you must pick up your boarding pass for your
connecting flight at the Departure Gate in your connecting
city. Also, note that while Online Checkin means you miss the
lines, it's still important to be on time as reservations and
boarding passes are cancelled ten minutes prior to flight time
if you are not in the gate area ready to board.

Imagine going through checkin while you quietly sip coffee
in your pajamas. Or spending those few extra minutes at the
office instead of standing in line. Flying faster doesn't
get any better than this. For Online Checkin, please visit:

We hope to have you online and onboard real soon!

Sincerely,

Your Friends at Southwest Airlines

*If you are checking luggage, please proceed to the Skycap
Podium or Ticket Counter prior to passing through the
Security Checkpoint.

AirTran, Northwest and Delta (the only three I use) have been doing this for quite some time now.

I know US Air does it too, but now with Southwest you can get the letter to determine when you board
and basically get the seat you want. So I think you willl see some people that like to be in row A,
up at 12:01am getting their boarding pass.

i dont like it... rather just show up at the airport x hours early and know that i will be in the a group. if im checking luggage, this means that i am going to have to go print the boarding pass AND THEN still go stand in line at the airport to get my luggage through. adds a step to the process which i dont like.

under the old system i could check my luggage and stand in line at the same time. now if i want the "a" pass i have to go through another steop :(

I like buying my ticket and knowing exactly what seat I will be sitting in. Althought Southwest has the lowest airfare, it will always feel like a cattle car.

yes but many airports are making the luggage a second step anyway you check in then wak over to a second section to check your bags

I don't mind Southwest. I'm pretty damn tall and I don't have a problem with their seats, provided the guy in front of me isn't leaning back.

Of course, the only recent flights I've made have been Stl-Houston-Stl, which is a very short hop by airplane.

I ususally get myself to the airport early enough to get an A boarding pass, which helps. I love sitting by the window, and not by the engine.

i've not seen that at the two airports that i fly in/out every 2-3 months, bwi and sjc; both are one step. but considering that WN is the only airline that provides non-stop service from bwi to sjc and vice versa, i will have to live with it when they do get around to implementing it at those two airports.

hmm haven't flown in a while so i wouldn't know... i've checked in, checked my luggage at the counter anyways, and occasionally they would make me walk my luggage to the bomb screening machine but lately they haven't. this is at LAX... sjc i never had to do that either.

anyways it's a good idea by southwest... i like it. :) i mean i still go and check my bags in anyways but i always arrive ridiculously early at the airport so its not a problem. I like having my "a" boarding pass in hand and sit near the front of the plane. yee!

12:01am is BS. Northwest lets you do it 36 hours before your flight... Just another way Southwest is a inferior low class airline.
