Stay away from UMAX

I wasn't sure where to put this so I put it here.
I own a UMAX scanner (Astra3450). I lost the patch that makes it work with WinXP. So I went to their site, and although they make the patch available for download, if you happen to need the original drivers be prepared to pay! They want $32.00 to send me drivers for my scanner! I'm going to make several back ups of the driver CD so I won't have to bend over for Umax in the future.

If you buy any used Umax product make sure it comes with the drivers!

At least some drivers are still on the UMAX UK website: http://www.umax.co.uk/support/default.htm

Anyone with a Umax might want to go there and grab updated drivers while you still can.

umax used to be pretty big in the scanner market about four years back. what happened?!

I thought it was $15 when I looked a while back. I can't get my scanner to work in XP because the patch they offer goes on top of 3.70 and I have 3.75 or vise versa. I finally went back to 2000 yesterday because a lot of things seem to work better in it. My brother has been wanting me to install XP on his computer forever but was I about to caugh up another $100 for him? No way. Now since I no longer use my copy, I will finally give it to him.
