Back to the old 'server'... ran for about 36 hours and then started having power issues again. Switched back to the old server... should have the new PSU in today or tomorrow...

-= 8/04 =-

**UPDATE** The :6969 redirect is now pointing to the new server! Woohoo!!! I think you'll find the response somewhat snappier! :) I expect to put the new server in the rack on Monday and it will be on the new IP at that time. :)

Well... I put the old PSU back in and didn't connect up the CDRW and the floppy drive. Upped the ram to 3x256Mb ECC Crucial. It's been humming along for 19 hours now  I'm currently hitting it by VNCing into my work machine and hitting pages from there. Seems pretty snappy! :) I've got an Antec 500w PSU on the way.. should be here by the Friday.

The only concern I really have when I put this on the new IP is that it's not behind a firewall at all. I was thinking of using a LinkSys broadband router (BEFSR41 v3) as the firewall... seems to work well at home... anyone think that is a bad idea or not enough security? I'd hate to get hacked the first day it's up!

-= 8/02 =-

The new PSU is here. I'm going to install that and the 3x 256mb ECC sticks of ram that came today also, and see what happens! Hopefully this will be it and that box will be up and running! :)

Later...
*SIGH* The PSU doesn't fit....

-= 7/23 =-

Been running two days straight without any hiccups! Temperatures on the CPUs are running around 47C in a less than optimal environment (my kitchen table... good thing the wife is away this week!). I'm looking into some ECC ram for this machine... dunno anything about this registered ram stuff, so some advice would be nice!

I had one strange entry in the access log... A single access as follows:

68.74.116.106 - - [23/Jul/2004:09:35:19 -0400] "GET http://www.helllabs.com.ua/cgi-bin/textenv.pl?8080 HTTP/1.0" 404 291

Why would a GET to helllabs.com.ua come to this server? If I type in that url, I get some company that seems to facilitate spammers... should I be concerned?

Please keep hitting this server and letting me know if you see anything funky!

Here is the schedule for stats updates:

Hourly
DPAD - 0:07
SB - 0:10
D2OL (nodes only) - 0:30

Once Daily
D2OL - 00:15
LifeMapper - 00:18
TSC - 00:20

-= 7/21 =-

IT LIVES! Running in parallel to the real 'server', try out the following links (note that there is still a port forward because Adelphia prevents traffic on port 80 :|)

D2OL
DPAD
LifeMapper
17-Or-Bust
TSC

** PICTURES **

Naturally, if I have a power failure here at home and lose that IP, I'll be reposting. LMK what the response time is like! I've changed the stats schedules a bit and will post the later... basically, alot of processing will mostly occur in the 1st 30 minutes of any hour, and nothing in the 2nd 30 minutes.

I'm on vacation this week (can't you tell?) and will probably roll the new server in on Tuesday 7/27, along with the new IP (12.3.177.164 I think, and no port forward) :)

-= 7/16 =-

Copied the database and php files over... small hitch thanks to files being saved as read-only when you burn them to CD

After that, none of the batch files ran anymore because the php.ini file that used to live in the php directory but now lives in the apache bin directory couldn't be found, but that's fixed :)

I don't think the RAID5 is helping the performance... scripts seem to take longer on this machine... I know I have to get more memory for it though, so maybe that will make a difference!

After that, I'll need a bit of Apache help on how to set up subdomains and stuff... this is my first Apache installation so...

I expect that I'll run this server from home next week and aim for the week of July 26 for go-live on ip 12.3.177.166 (NO PORT DIRECTIVE! :p) I will provide the home IP address for those of you that want to poke around and see if I've configured anything in a glaringly idiotic manner! :p

Yes.. I this update is overdue... I apologize for that...

Apache 1.3 installed & operational... Check!
PHP 5.0 installed & operational... Check!

:D

NICE!!!!!

But... is 256MB of Ram enough for that beast? Both Apache and MySQL use quite a bit of memory..
How's the noise from those SCSI drives? :D

CyGoR - No, 256 won't be enough when it finally goes gold, but it's enough for now. With just the usual crap loaded, the Windows Task Manager is reporting 191920k used...

The drives aren't all that loud, really... it's always the fans that seem louder! :)

Just had a bitch of a time trying to met phpmyadmin running... turns out that PHP5 and mySQL4 have different versions of libmysql.dll and I didn't have the right ones in the right locations... working now! :)

I think the unusual GET is someone testing your apache installation for proxy access, its not an unusual thing, i get those alot on my server :)

How do I make sure that it's sealed shut? I assume that's something I don't really want open to the public?

Well it looks pretty much locked down, as your server returned a 404 error :)
