Question Static Shock

I had my computer in sleep mode I woke up this morning, reached over to pick up socks off of the floor, I touched the case of the computer and got a static shock and the computer turned on?, I thought the case protected the board from that sort of thing?

You got a jolt precisely because it did its job at grounding your static charge.

Then why did it come out of sleep mode and turn on?, I thought the charge went around the case away from the Motherboard?
