Static Electricity problem

Ok, so here's the prob, everything I touch, shocks me everytime I touch it tonight. Right now I'm ripping CDs to Musicmatch, and every single time I touch my case, I shock myself. Everysingle time I touch a light switch or go to pet my dog, I shock myself (and I shock my pup when I go to pet her...poor girl).

What's a common way to get rid of this?

Not wearin any socks, wearing a cotton t-shirt and cotton PJ bottoms...that last shock kinda stung a bit...

Seriously it sounds like you need more humidity, being from MN (according to your profile) you probably have the heater on right now, sucking all of the moisture out of the air. Makes it much easier to generate static electricity.

Yeah, heater is running, I live on the top level so have all the vents closed. Guess I'll have a very shocking night and hope it goes away.

This chart shows how increasing relative humidity in your domicile will reduce the potential charge AND it will drain fast enough that you will not get shocked. This is why static shocks don't occur in the summer.

Alright thanks, guess I'll just have to go lay on my bed and don't move. It's gotten to the point that I'm shocking myself on everything that I basically touch...few shocks laugh a little, everything you touch you get shocked...not a very good feeling.

The charts/factoids/pics/clinical research results you always manage to dig up never ceases to amaze me. :Q It's like...you have Google in your brain or something.

Just put a large pot of water on the stove and bring it to a boil uncovered for a few minutes.

😕

Woudldn't that depend on where you live? Here in Oregon, the humidity is typically below 25% in the summer time....

That'd be awesome...best plugin evar. First...Google...then Google Bar...then Google Desktop...now Google Brain!

Do you get shocked in the summer?

Of course I never did in the winter either back when the sharks were swimming through my "offshore rig" of a house. Well at least now I'm ABOVE the water this time. 🙂

Heh, it's winter and there are no shocks to be had where I am now. Of course if it starts to thunder that is a different story.

Heh, you should see the stuff I'm working on now!

I actually can't remember the last time I had a static shock, summer or winter.... heh.

We have a lot of houseplants, maybe that keeps the humidity up in the house in the summer, or something..
