WTF?

I wont even be cranking out $100k/yr on graduation with a PhD in CompE from PSU.

I don't think anyone ever goes after a PhD for the money. I'm in grad school for EE right now.

Yea LOL at you if you got a PhD for the money.

Youd have to be semi retarded to look at the OP and not know what i was referring to.

I wont get that much with a PhD, let alone a BS.

Well I'm not semi retarded, or at all retarded actually. I never said you were doing it for the money, but that if anyone was pursuing a PhD for money alone they are foolish.

Bingo.

I know people from city colleges who made a lot of $$. I know IVY Leagers don't make that much money at all.

Going to IVY League is more about status and higher level learning than anything (if you can afford it). If you want to mnake $$, there are plenty of ways to do that without even going to college.

Going to an ivy league school (or any other big name school) will get you connections. You won't necessarily get a better education than at a "lesser" school.

Bad argument. Bill Gates is an outlier statistics wise. College graduates have an advantage over non-graduates... almost always with some exceptions.

My coworker is a Havard engineer with 6 years of experience and he is making just over 50K USD a year (he went to Havard on scholarship).

My GF best friend is not anywhere near the 100K mark with a Harvard MBA that she got last year (went to Havard on scholarship & currently living in Boston).

Career & money depends on the where you live, how motivative/greedy you are with money, and who you know.

Such as trades workers are making more money than engineers & managers.

Anybody graduting from college and making $60-70k should consider themselves lucky and be happy with that kind of offer.
I don't believe students Ivy League warrant $30k more in pay.

Some of my peers will be starting their first job at $60-70k because they're going into petroleum processing. Most don't get offers that break $60k. And this is Berkeley engineering we're talking about.

Hell, I'm only getting maybe $25k (well technically like $50k if you count the full tuition waiver) and I'm fairly happy.

Only ibank or hedge fund analysts crack six figs in the first year.

ibank :D:D:D

no ivy league school, but hopefully kelley @ IU will land me a decent job.

Huh?

I make more per hour than all the ibank kids that I know (100 hour weeks...always ). The total comp this year is ~130K for the top tier banks.
Yeah, if you're quoting mid-tier undergrads working in their first year. Top tier undergrads will crack 150k, mid-tier MBAs might crack 200k, and top-tier MBAs will crack 250k total comp...all within first two years of work. Hell, my cousin (Stanford MBA grad in 3rd year with JPM) cracked 400k after her bonus.

According to the Financial Times a person who went to their globally ranked 100 MBA program and is 33, made on average $120k last year and top 10 MBA program made $150k

Very true. You get 10-20% premium over your peers when you get out of Ivy Leagues.

And you don't have to come out of Ivy league to make $100k+. Plenty of business owners make that type of money with high school and regular college degree.

Nobody does ibanking for the money the first few years, its all about exit opportunities

I decided I don't like living at work, decided to become a consultant instead. But its true my gf is a analyst at a bulge bracket bank and she makes a lot more than me. My perks are better though

Escorts, because while the front office chicks are hot they don't bang you because the guy to girl ratio is 10:1. 5-1 if you count hr and the secretaries.

to have a ton in the bank for when you need it.

it scales down to maybe 60 as you gain seniority ... and the comp grows quite a bit

Suckers, Im working 40 hours a week and Ive got more money than I know what to do with.

LOL, we all just got owned right here.

Employers don't determine salaries by looking at the school you came from. If 2 people interview for the same job and one went to harvard and the other the university of wherever, they don't double your salary just because you came from a good school.
