No. I'm serious. Maybe a little over the top, but my sentiment is the same.

cheers!

I was too once a liberal, then I made tons of money and converted REAL quick.

I'm neither. I hate the party system and think it's the worst thing that happened in USA history. As such, I'm registered Independent.
I guess you hate democracy too, then.

All developed democracies feature political parties. The U.S. is unique in its dual-party nature, but you'll never find a constitutional republic without political parties.

Maybe great isn't the right word, but it was a very optimistic speech. This is what the Republicans sorely needed and that is what they got. In that sense, it was great.

That's the thing - he didn't SAY anything. This SOTU reminded me of the one Clinton gave in the immediate aftermath of Monica-gate. He was tentative and afraid to articulate any real-world programs, so he spouted a bunch of blithe generalities, promising a little bit to everyone. President Bush is such a phony that I don't believe a word of it. Do you really think he of all people is interested in energy independence? The whole speech was chaff IMO.

I guess George Washington hated democracy, too since he was strongly opposed to the party system and said it would be the downfall of the USA.

Me too ... for a time. Then I realized how destructive and unprincipled greed is, and I moved back towards the center. He who dies with the most toys is just as dead, and it's a terrible reason to lead an empty life.
Oh yeah, and I still make tons of money and have lots of toys. I just don't stress myself out that my income glass is only 60% full after taxes instead of 63% full. Stopping using you paycheck to keep score and enjoy life as it is.

And here we are, two-hundred and thirty years later; the richest and most stable country in the world. The U.S. Constitution is the longest-lasting constitution of any society - ever.

Downfall? Hardly.

Bowfinger,

I just want people to take care of themselves and take responsibility for their lives, because if I can after all I've been through then so can everybody else.

It's difficult to do just that when health care costs are through the roof.

Fact is, the private and public sectors have failed normal Americans. Average Americans need government help if they want to have any semblance of a normal life.

EDIT: do you own youro own home? Then you're not totally taking care of yourself. Does your city repair the roads you drive on? Does your state provide critical infrastructure, including 911 service, new highways, and subsidies for your local farmers so that you can get cheap food?

That being said, the Bush administration is one of the most fiscally extravagant of any in history. I don't see how President Bush fits into the mold of a fiscal conservative.

Downfall? Hardly.

We live in a Democratic Republic, not a democracy. The 2 party system is horrible, at least 3 strong parties are nesessary for any decent amount of progress to be done in a reasonable fashion. When you have to choose between Bush and Kerry (anyone else is a wasted vote), there's clearly a problem with our government.
