Obama is firing a shotgun with no choke. He's all over the board, all over the world. I've finally figured it out. He's like an ADD kid. He has an inability to hone down on America's biggest issues and concentrate on fixing those first. Fuck the rest of the world and sending them aid. Let's concentrate on where the money spent will best serve our country's interests.
We have a Job & earnings problem
We have a spending problem
We have racial problems, thanks to this divisive administration, the Al Sharptons & the Jesse Jacksons of the world.
We have infrastructure problems
We have chaos, caused by a healthcare problem that wouldn't exist, were it not for most of the above.
In good times of full time employment, most companies offer healthcare coverage to full time workers. The fact that we have too many employees working part time, with no health care coverage, is a sign that this economy is not anywhere near in the recovery that the president claims it is. We can take care of our own, when we, as a country, are fully functional and growing. We're not. The reason it's gonna get worse is because of this government mandate over healthcare coverage. I still maintain that Obamacare is a job killer. We are going to find out how right I am when the employer mandate kicks in.

yoo too. ;)

What I say is the truth. Why do you have such a problem with truth? You guys just can't admit that what is not working.....is not working. Is it some pride issue? Liberals just can't be humbled, no matter how wrong they are.

What's your point?

We had all these issues when Bush was President as well, in fact worse because so many millions were locked out of Healthcare.

At least the ADD kid has tried to do something about it, a lot more than you can say for Bush.

No, but he's an Obamabot. We have those with each iteration of President, although I much say the Bush parrots weren't quite as righteous. Come to think of it, it's not the politicians attitudes I find to be as annoying as those circulating through the crowd saying "he's right you know". Obama's interest is self and party first, but that's not just him. It's pretty much all of DC with few exceptions. What we need is a good old fashioned shunning of them and the sycophants like the one you quoted.

I'd rather have more Bernie Sanders in office than these guys. At least he has principle which transcends party.

Damn, I thought this might be the year Congress members threw their jock straps up to the podium to show their level of adoration. Maybe next year he'll be talking to an empty chamber having negated the need for Congress entirely.

Im sure he will ramble on about privacy vs national security and how he will appoint a shill to over see his spying. Then move on to vilifying the rich and how income inequity is the sole problem with our economy. Then move on to the successes of Obamacare and how hundreds of thousands have managed to sign up for Obamacare regardless if they paid for it. Let me know if I miss anything.

How far off was i on this? Did he add anything worth talking about?

"With or without Congress"....all hail the king. What a fucking joke.

I seem to be hearing a lot of this out if the right recently. Do you guys know how our government works? Why would you think the president needs congress to pass a new law for everything he does?

Btw if you think the things he proposed violate the law can you tell me which laws they violate?

Every president, regardless of political party, has the powers Obama talked about last night. The right is crying foul because Obama is talking about using these powers. Guess what, Bush and Regan had the same powers too.

Not only that, but they used them. Frequently. Strangely that wasn't 'tyranny' then.

Most of the people complaining about this are pretty low information though. It's possible that some of them aren't being dishonest, they might just not know how our government works.

In summary, from the majority of the posts. Obama's a poo poo head.

Edit ...

Seriously though, definately his worse SOTU speech so far.

Yeah. I think the media is focusing in on it just because they can get a story out of it. Seems like if they got a copy of the speech early, an easy attention-grabbing storyline to write would be about Obama no longer playing "nice guy" and deciding to impose a "dictatorship" via the use of executive powers he has had all along. Everyone likes a good read about a person "acting out of character." (No more Mr. Nice President!! OMGBBQ!!)

My guess is that the media is focusing on it because they are being fed quotes, information, and stories by Republican legislators and aides on a consistent basis. Whenever you start to see a new media narrative emerge like this that's usually what's going on. This isn't unique to the Republicans, all political parties do it.

Sure the media listens to each other as well and that reinforces new narratives, but for something like this it's nearly certain that this is a concerted effort. Just listen to how closely their talking points hew to one another. That's no accident.

Well, he pretty much is King. Presidents have been using executive orders (and Bush's signing statements, which are even worse) for quite some time. These have the force of law unless overturned by SCOTUS or Congress, and as long as the Democrats hold one chamber it ain't gonna be overturned by Congress. And the Democrats' base is fully on board; they WANT a king. Obama has pretty much as much power as he has the guts to seize, tempered by the knowledge that if he reaches too high he may get reversed and suffer loss of political capital and thus power.

That may sound strong, but remember that historically few kings held absolute power either except in theory. In practice, nearly every king was subject to reversal.

Nonsense. Seriously nonsense. No one wants a king. The issue is that the GOP are being intentionally obstructionist for purely partisan reasons.
For example, compuwiz posted infrastructure problems in his rant of Obama's supposed failures. Yet here in Portland, far right GOPers just recently succeeded in killing a desperately needed transportation project for purely political reasons. If their guy was in the governors mansion or the White House, they would have backed it wholeheartedly. But their guy isn't, so the tea party would rather see the existing 100 year drawbridge fall into the Columbia River so they can blame the Democrats when it does.
Magnify this across the country, and you get the picture.
