state income tax?

is there a website that lists what the state income tax percentages are? looking for IL personally, tried googling and found 9.7% but that seemed a bit high. That same page also had texas' state tax to be about 12% but i've heard that texas has no income tax. If this assumption is wrong please let me know. any help?

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington State and Wyoming have no state income tax. New Hampshire doesnt even have sales tax.

Really? I lived there for 14 years and never encountered a toll road. I have to pay 3 bucks a day in Virginia for tolls.

They have to get money to provide essential state services from someplace. If it is not income tax then it is real estate taxes, sales taxes, or some other type of taxes. You would be amazed at just how much all those little taxes hidden in things like cable bills, phone bills, home sale closings etc add up to each year.

Texas may not have an income tax or a car tax, but we will soon have about a 10% sales tax and more toll roads(parallel to current major highways). Right now there are toll roads in Dallas. As for tutition both UT and A&M have gone up 29% in the past couple years.

A lot of the states that have no state income tax make that up in tourism ala Texas, Florida, Nevada. Some of the states that have no state income tax are states of wealthy people like New Hampshire that has little need for social services and therefore does not need the tax income of poorer states.

Ok, sorry I am familiar with the Austin area. I had been to Dallas and Houston many times but was to young to notice any tolls.

Uh 8.7% for state and local taxes is because our sales tax is 8.25%(state and local combined), and most places have a property taxes of 1.5%.

26.8% because thats federal + state/local.

That website lists the avg tax burden, not the state income tax.

I live in Northern Virginia and we have exactly 1 toll road going from the Beltway west to Leesburg. The only reason that is a toll road is because the pre-existing limited access road going to Dulles Airport was not allowed to be used for anything other than airport traffic. As for street lights I don't know where you live but we have more than I really desire out where I live.

Theres only a handfull of toll roads in the state at the moment. But the state proposed transportation plan would have toll roads parallel to the major highways.

houston has beltway 8, which is mostly toll (except for the part between 45 and 59 since that feeds IAH). also have the hardy (roughly parallel to 45 north) and the westpark (runs straight west from where 59 bends southwest; it's also the first all ez-tag toll road in the US). there is also a toll road in ft bend county from beltway 8 out to highway 6 somewhere. and, when the katy freeway gets rebuilt, some of the 'managed use' lanes in the middle will be ez-tag only toll.
