Got this for my son. It met specs of his system, yet performs horribly in low res mode still.

He has Athlon XP 3000
256 megs pc2700 ram
10 gig 5400 speed maxtor harddrive
and geforce 3 ti200 64 meg card

Are any one of these things causeing the grapical slowdown? It occurs during fights and such and basically everthing becomes a slide show.

Will upgrading any 1 of these things cause it to at least stop the slide show and run in low res mode at least?

I agree. It's probably the video card, 256mb more RAM wouldn't hurt either.

just for comparison, KOTOR 1 ran perfectly on my XP 3200, 512MB of ram and a TI4200 at 1024x768 (or was it 1152xwhatever)

Look into more ram (have at least 512mb in there) and a new video card.

Give us your budget, we'll give you the best solutions.

Like others have said, get atleast 512mb of ram and a 128mb vid card. I ran it with everything maxed out and 2xAA on 1024 athlon xp 2500+ and 512mb ram with a 5900.

definetly more RAM...try to make it 1 gig, because he's not going to just stop at KOTOR.

I just picked up this game, have not had time to play it any. Is it any good for an RPG?

Great game. Definitely at the top of my list along with the likes of Xenogears/Deus Ex. I didn't even like Star Wars but I enjoyed this game immensely. In fact I actually kind of like SW now because of this game :)

A 6600GT would let him run smoothly at 1024x768, though you might also need another 256 MB of RAM.

the AGP x850xt is $200 after $50 MIR at Microcenter . . . that'll "fix" it [plus another 256MB - minimum - more RAM]

i just got one to replace my now dead 9800xt [which ran KotOR just fine]

Yeah, I'm thinking ram is the place to start.

I played it on a AXP 2000+ witha G4Ti200 (64MB) BUT 512MB of system ram. Played fine for me except in one part where a bunch of "robo soldiers" showed up at a guys ranch on that planet with flying mantarays (some NPC was trying to run away with teh rancher's daughter). I got a hardlock on that spot almost everytime.
