Startup & Shutdown issue with XP Pro

Im having a problem. When I first got XP Pro my shut down was like it should be. But about two days ago, my shut down started taking longer. And then it would shut down. Then when I started up the next time, it said that my computer wasn't shut down properly and that it is going to perform a scandisk operation. It goes through the operation and all is fine. Then I do my work for the day, I shut down, and then restart the next day, and it does the scan disk thing again. Even when I just click restart it takes awhile, and then it scandisks during the restart. Does anybody know what's wrong?

Did you happen to install any new programs recently? Maybe you have a program that is not XP compatible, and Windows is having an issue shutting the program down at a restart. Try looking to make sure that they are all ok. If you want to try to speed up your book, go to xp-erience.org, they have a utility that can speed up your startup. I used it an it is safe. To download it, it actually redirects you to Microsoft. Good luck

I've been there. None of those really pinpoint my problem. The only thing I can do is, to close all running programs before shut down. IF that doesn't work then is there a way to revert my registry?
