I made a post last week about starting SWG, but my friend on there quit and wants to move to WoW.

We played for about two hours on one of the "recommended realms." I didn't know what "recommended" meant, so I did a little research. Apparently "recommended" realms are among the worst realms to play on? The realm we played on, Maiev, has a 3:7 alliance/horde ratio, and has about 8,000 players (according to realm statistics). We want to play as horde, so this ratio sounds unappealing. Will the 8,000 player population lead to a bad gaming experience?

Now, really my question is: does a realm population and A:H ratio matter that much? I don't know if I should stay in Maiev, or move to one of the release realms.

We are very casual players and prefer to play PVP realms.

i really dont think itll be that much of an issue if you are casual game players.

if youre on the side with the large population, you'll have to wait long to enter battle grounds. thats the only bad thing

Recommended usually means the low population or new realms. Eventually - the realm you join will become overpopulated and you'll be screaming and kicking whenever you have to wait to log in AND you'll be praying you can move to a new realm for free [Blizzard typically does this whenever they open up a new realm and you are playing on an overpopulated realm].

Since you want to play on a pvp realm, balance of A to H really won't matter. You're going to spend a lot of time watching your back... ;)

You probably tried this site already?

Wow Realm Statistics

As an FYI - I use to play on the Lothar server and even though the statistics indicate 1.8 Alliance : 1 Horde, that really didn't mean much. Horde easily dominated the Alliance in nearly all pvp areas.

We moved to Burning Legion. It has an even 50/50 A:H ratio, and 23,000 players.

There seem to be a lot more trash talkers though...

I have 2 lvl 70's on Dethecus on alliance, which is a PvP server that i really regret playing on. I had my friend tell me to join when i first started because it was recommened and such. So i lvl'd my NE hunter to 70 and saw that there were too many hunters, i knew how to play my class though but still didn't get into any arena teams or end game guilds, so i made a warlock and got him up to 70 in about a month and a half and i am still unsatisfied. I suggest a couple things for you best playing experience first of all play on a high populated server because it will be easy lvling so you could get into instances more often, second if you like pvp most likely horde is for you, alliance is not too great. Most alliance really win is just AV but it just depends on the battle group. Horde have better players and more mature players imo from experience. Illidan is a good server that has been around for a while the ratio is about 50:50 so its nice. Also play a class that is needed, for instance, a shadow priest, then later respecting holy for higher lvl instances or just pick a class that you like and STICK to that character, dont have the "case of the alts" where you just keep making new characters, the game will get boring quick. My opinion though, to me this game is just done, i played it too much to realize that i wasted a lot of time on the game rather than with my family and i feel bad. Just don't get too addicted, you will regret it like i did. I quit the game two days ago to realize that the game is really not that great if you don't get anywhere in the game at all. Just my 2 cents, hope you take my last part into consideration.
