Rippetoe: "Wow, I made over a million bucks from those AT geeks!"

Edit: Suddenly there's $22.94 missing from my account...hmm

I bought 10 copies - I'll wear through 'em quicker than a powerlifter does his bench shirt!

I do too. There are a lot of videos on the web that are free, but they lack Coach Rip's humor.

Better order soon, Deeko's frothing like a fanboy.

Damit maybe buy to learn power clean? After all I have 4 of his books already (SS1/2, "strong enough" and "practical programming"). Dammit.

My DVD arrived today. The Menu has 5 options:

1. The Squat
2. The Deadlift
3. The Bench Press
4. The Press
5. The Power Clean

There is also a "Play All" option (roughly 2 hours, 27 minutes long). IMO this video is LONG overdue. Seeing the precise placements and movements is FAR, FAR better than just reading them. One thing I like is that some of his students do it wrong and he shows you what to do instead, so it kind of shows "common mistakes" as well as proper form. To anyone wanting to add strength training to their personal training regime, I would definitely recommend "Starting Strength", "Practical Programming", and this DVD.

One thing that is a little confusing is that he uses 3 or 4 different people per clip - each movement shows a different person. It threw me off a bit because someone new comes on when they changed camera angles. Maybe it's to keep visual interest, I dunno. I would have also liked it if they had shot it at a studio with a green screen or backdrop, instead of on-location with a bunch of other equipment and people lounging around in the background.

Also, Mark needs to read the "fat loss" sticky at the top of this forum, he's got a bit of a gut going ;) (no offense Mr. Rippetoe, please don't kill me with your super strength! :D)

I watched the DVD the other day and liked it. Here's a mini review:

1. This video is, as you'd expect, a perfect complement for the book. In fact, the two should always ship together from now on, as you're really missing out getting one without the other.
2. The format is just clip after clip of Rippetoe watching people perform each lift and him commenting on their form. This lets you see both what the lift should look like across a range of body types, as well as what it shouldn't look like as the people often make mistakes and Rip corrects them.
3. Rip points out a lot of "tricks" and mental cues for doing the lifts properly that are immensely helpful.
4. The production values are non-existent and the video has a slightly ghetto/amateur feel to it. This makes no real difference in terms of the video's usefulness as a teaching tool, but this almost feels like something that could've been released on youtube.

Other than having an actual coach teaching you, I think the Starting Strength book + video are just about the best tools I've seen for learning the 5 core lifts (squat, deadlift, press, bench press, power clean). I definitely learned something new from watching the video and I think it's worth the money - I only wish it was available long ago.
