Hey there!

Lately my car is having starting problems. it's a very strange problem, my engine cranks but it doesn't fire right up, it needs about 2-3 times to crank to get it starting. sometimes Ijust dont crank it just giving it ignition for 5 seconds turning it off and again ignition for another 5 seconds , and again for the 3rd time then it fires right up. I've changed the spark plugs, air filter, oil and oil filter, timing belt, crankshaft sensor, speed sensor, brand new battary.

Could be the fuel filter be clogged and the engine isn't getting fuel the way it should be? should i check fuel pressure?

Car in question is a 1999 Mitsubishi Carisma 1.6 petrol

Any help is appreciated!

I would start with evaluating the fuel pressure. Every time you turn the key on, the fuel pump kicks on for a few seconds and that might be enough to build up the pressure to start. Change the fuel filter, and perhaps run a good injector cleaner through it.

Rent a fuel pressure gauge from a parts store and check that as mentioned.

If not that it may be worth checking out your ignition wiring. I've seen a intermittent bad ignition switch cut off power to the fuel system. Basically check power at the relay, as well as the relay itself. Also check out your fuel pressure regulator too.
