regarding maxtor's warranty:

it does say one year, but i've never had a prob getting maxtor to send me a new hard drive after the warranty had expired. i've done this twice. i went to the maxtor website to register for a rma, it stated that it was still under warrantry, although the drive was 3 years old. they'll even ship the drive as soon as u give them a delivery confirmation number your your old drive. call 1-800-2maxtor and speak with a rep for quick, easy, and friendly service. that's my experience.

Then you probably had an OEM drive instead of retail. If you went to website and it said it was still under warranty, it didn't expire. So Obviously the drive you had wasn't a 1 year warranty.

Or more likely, I think the 1 year warranty was begun only a couple years ago anyway, so at the time you bought a 3 year warranty one.

Trust me, they dont replace drives out of warranty.

Not all Maxtor HDDs with 16MB cache are "DiamondMax 10" HDDs. Maxtor also has a new HDD line called "Ultra16" with 16MB. The Maxtor Ultra16 with 250MB PATA is on sale this week at Staples B&M, I'm not sure about online though. No idea, how fast the "Ultra16" HDDs are compared to the "DiamondMax 10", which sells as high-end HDDs, I think.

Thanks OP! I picked up one of these last night. I've been wanting to upgrade to a larger HD for quite some time now, but the other deals haven't sparked an interest until now.

I'll let you guys know how it works & sounds once I install it.

Installation was a breeze! Drive shows up as 189GB. Very quiet & much faster than the 5400 RPM, 20GB Maxtor it replaced! 😀

I found a $15 off $100 coupon for this which brings the final price down to $54.98 which seems like a pretty hot deal to me. Too bad I just bought a PS2 and am broke right now. But otherwise $.28/gig is pretty damn hot.

And by the way, I've tested the coupon and apparently, you don't need to add anything else to the cart to use it cuz the original price before instant rebate is already over $100.

I can't get it to stack both coupons 🙁
Here's the error it gives me when I put both coupons. BTW the cart total is $130.97

# Coupon 1

We are sorry. The order total necessary for this coupon is not in your cart. Please remove the coupon code and reapply it after increasing your order to: $229.98
# Coupon 2

We are sorry. The order total necessary for this coupon is not in your cart. Please remove the coupon code and reapply it after increasing your order to: $229.98

They work individually but not together for me.
