Starting my own webpage, have some questions for you guys.

I already bought the domain name and host, now it's time to actually make the site.
I want to use it mainly as a host for pics, but in the future maybe a review site...
What software do you guys use to make your sites?
Any ideas/comments/rude remarks/crazy stories appreciated.
 
i use dreamweaver ultradev

i have yet to use any functionality specific to ultradev, but it makes me feel more special than if i just used dreamweaver 🙂

i rec. dreamweaver. make sure you have a good knowledge of html first though... wysiwyg should never be a substitute for knowledge, it should only be used to make things faster, imho.
 
it adds all these annoying tags and %nbsp; to everything!

try PHP, ASP, Perl, CGI or JSP for some dynamic web development, it may take a while to learn but it'll save you from some headaches in the future.

If he's got web hosting...he dosen't need a web server 🙂

Personaly, I use Dreamweaver 4/homesite 5. Photoshop and Fireworks for the graphics.
 
Notepad and Photoshop. I like to have total control over my content. 🙂

If need WYSIWYG, use Dreamweaver, Frontpage tends bloat your code, adding extraneous information and tags.
 
agree with bjb. if you really want wysiwyg, go with dreamweaver... but try and get into the actual code as well, it's important. Check out w3c's site for standards information.

Actually wasn't the MAcintosh the forst PC that implemented it in Aldus PageMaker?

littlezipp - frontpage is frowned upon because the code is really messy and inefficient. this is a problem with wysiwyg's in general, but frontpage and other ms products are particularly bad. not to mention it will actually change your prewritten code, which is just hell. dreamweaver will occasionally end open tags, which is inconvenient if you have files that you do not want to be complete webpages, but this is a minor inconvenience compared to frontpage.

So we are all in agreement, Frontpage=bad, Dreamweaver=good.
Now to find it for a decent price.
 
adobe had a compeititive product a while back... forget its name...
