I'm being offered a great deal on a dedicated server ($200/month for all the hoopla, where other places would charge about $500), so I decided to do something about it. Here's my idea, and the e-mail I'm sending out to others:
<< Hi, a minute of your time if I could..Right now I'm starting up my own "wrestling network", which is common in the computer web-site industry. If you never heard of one of these, here's how it works: basically I offer you free hosting, while you run my ads. And if you get a certain amount of traffic (probably 100,000 page views/month), you'll earn a good portion of the CPM rate (ad revenue).
The ad revenue that's earned by all the sites in the network is used to pay for my dedicated server (one of the best that money can buy out there), and whatever's left is split between us. So basically the more sites I garner, the more money will be left to pass around to you guys.
I've worked for 3dgfn.com (or 3dgameforce.com) for over a year, which does essentially the same thing I just described, except it was aimed toward computer hardware/gaming websites. I have lots of experience in this area, and now I'm planning to move it over to the wrestling community.
So to sum it all up, you get to move on a great new server (same one used over at realgn.com). Here's the latest statistics on it: Uptime: 8:38pm up 78 days, 18:27, 0 users, load average: 0.93, 1.30, 1.32 (it was 144 days before they upgraded the server, but it's going back to the old mark quite quickly
).
You can read all about the security and stuff over here http://www.realgn.com/articles/move.shtml and I can give you a full list of features we offer (ASP, CGI, Telnet and a lot more). I'll set up a nice VBulletin forum(www.vbulletin.com) for your site as well if you're interested, and any other services you have your sights on. I'll also allow for unlimited space and bandwidth (within a reasonable amount of course).
In addition to the server, you'll get in on our ad deal, which you don't have to worry about having been reduced with your host. I'll also allow for pay domain hosting on our great server as well (as in you pay), but I'm working that out the details now. So if you're interested or have ANY questions, let me know either by e-mail, ICQ at 420816, or AIM at Dctr T MD. >>
I've administrated a smaller server before, but I'll probably run into some deadends doing it all on my own here, so if anyone knows of a good guide out there, talk to me
I'm also probably going go have to with NT, as a few of my sites may end up NT, and from what I've seen it's a bit easier to manage but with the risk of some stability and reliability. So if anyone has any suggestions or other, especially if you've run your own hosting company before, I'll gladly listen..
