Starting GA LLC -do I really need a $94 labor law poster?

I registered the LLC and haven't done anything with it yet. I received a letter from "COMPLIANCE POSTER SERVICE" in Atlanta. It has lots of warnings like "failure to comply with posting regulations can lead to fines up to $7,000" and "Please respond by 01/28/2021"

I have a sneaking suspicion the government gave my information to a private company that wants to scam me into buying a poster for $94. If I actually need to display a poster in my own home for only me to see, then I should be able to print one myself according to some guidelines.

More scary warnings:

"Your business is required by Federal Law to post a current compliant labor law poster in the workplace. Federal law requires that this poster be placed on the property of the business whether you have 1 employee or 1,000. You must post UP-TO-DATE employment posters in the workplace. The poster must also include information about workers' compensation benefits.

Pursuant to Federal Law 29 USC Sec. 666 (i) & 29 Sec. 2005 penalties and risks of non-compliance with posting regulations can lead to potential fines in excess of $7,000 per instance, for failure to post federally required information. Further, lawsuits can be tolled based on failing to display mandatory posters. You must post a compliant employment poster in a conspicuous place in the workplace where all employees and applicants can see it. To obtain your federal employment labor law poster, please detach the bottom coupon and return in the enclosed envelope with your document processing fee of $94. Please allow two to three weeks for your 2021 All-In-One Labor Law Poster delivery.
"

(I did not add the emphasis)

I believe a politician set up a sweet deal for his private poster company to get all this revenue.

1. Do I need to have this poster in my home just for me?

2. If I really do need to hang the poster in my home, can I just ask a local print shop to print a compliant poster?

So the first question to answer is whether or not you have any employees, and since you "haven't done anything" with your LLC yet I presume the answer is no. There are lots of labor laws (like the one cited) that only apply to businesses with employees. "Members" of your LLC (like you) do not count as employees; neither do any independent contractors you might use.

Information that you provide to the state while registering your LLC is public information. Vendors that provide business products and services obviously access that information to target their marketing. You can look forward to a whole new stream of junk mail. 😂

$94 for all the "processing" that's involved sounds like a steal.

Send them a reply telling them no thanks but thanks for the business idea. Your LLC is switching gears and will be selling $45 employment poster "processing" to newly registered businesses.

Don't forget to tell them to have a nice day.

If you are self-employed and covering your ass via LLC what makes anyone thing you have employees beyond yourself? For instance, maybe you are an art body model. No employees in your self-employed case unless your dick has a mind of its own.

Buying one of those now would be pretty stupid. You know damn well that Joe Biden is going to increase the minimum wage this year, so it will be obsolete within weeks.

Makes me glad we've gotten exactly zero BS letters like that for the 5 years our LLC has existed in MI. They take our $25/year for a license and leave us alone

In all likelihood, it's released as public information of some sort and private companies send things based on this.

For example, when folks register a new house - it's added to the appraisal district here for tax purposes. It's public information. From this, we receive spam messages in the mail of "Contact us and we will file a homestead exemption for you for $50".... even though it's absolutely free to do it yourself.

Similarly, whenever I register a new car - be it a new car or a used car - I inevitably get tons of spam mail for extending the car warranty.... even though it's a 2006 car that I simply took ownership of from my parents lol.

No you don't need to buy their "special" poster for $94. I'm not sure where you at in GA but we get those here in Illinois to and I just pitch them in the trash. I think it's going on six years now since we formed our llc and we've never had one of those hanging on the wall in the break room.

Don't sweat it man you're going to get a lot of bullshit like this thrown at you all under the guise of "State and Federal compliance laws" but 99% of it is crap and it's just another way to take your hard earned cash.

What's the LLC for? Planning ahead just in case you win Powerball/Megamillion to keep your anonymity?
Will be CZroe be involved?

Nope. It's a scam. You don't need it. Who's going to report you? You?

I’m not sure how it works in GA and I’m not saying you’re wrong... I had a sales tax audit in NY and even though it’s a home office they checked for that. In NY you’re allowed to print them which I did.

In some types of company entities even if you’re the only employee you’re still required to carry workers comp. So you might not rat yourself out, but there’s still audits.
